View Full Version : Do you want to go to Jail on Saturday 12/2?
So after yesterdays ride we decided another slightly out of town ride idea was a good one........Heres the plan:
Breakfast at my place (Plymouth)....then head to Monticello to ride, about 10:30am start time from the trail head.....then a quick trip to St. Cloud for the exploration of the new "Jail Trail".....then.....ummmmm........well.........what do we do after the ride again, oh yeah.......BEERS!!! Maybe a trip to Bravo Burrito, some of the finest Mexican Food in the.... well it's just damn good in any area I guess.
Details are as follows. I live in Plymouth and any and all are welcome to stop by the morning of the ride for some hot breakfast, maybe buffet style or build your own breakfast burrito style I haven't decided yet but figure on anytime after 8:30am is good and as long as we leave here by about 9:45am we will arrive on time, or at least as close as we get! Then from here we are about 30 minutes to Monticello, which is a great trail and fun for all, from there we are about another 40 minutes to the Jail Trail in St. Cloud, which is the newest trail in that area and also a really good one. I haven't ridden the newest stuff on that yet, but from what I hear it's pretty doggone challenging, and the stuff I did ride was fun. Then after that well we do what we do...drink beer.....talk smart....listen to Anita talk about Morning Wood....etc.
Once again this is a very eclectic mixed bag of riders, styles, bikes, speeds, etc so all are welcome and encouraged to come, if you don't know anyone and that is intimidating then come to breakfast and by the time you can say eggs over easy you'll fit right in and you'll be having a ball!
Please RSVP by E-mail, PM, or cell all info is below.
Hope to see a huge turnout!!!

Put me in JAIL!!!! I'm there, esp. for breakfast:banana:
Forget this "guys infiltrating the ladies ride" thing. Ladies, let's dominate this group ride instead!
We should still be good for another couple weeks on the BC thing, unless the snow gods get extra frisky.
I think I could be up for joining this outing.

alright.... it has been decided.... womans monthly ride is infultrating the jail trail/monticello ride!
watch out boys.... :fool:  ;)
....drink beer.....talk smart....listen to Anita talk about Morning Wood....etc.
*Sputter...gasp* You need to stop listening to the women's PRIVATE conversations on these rides....sheesh.....:D
We're in....and I would like those amazing burritos you served up in Cable.

One Beer+Anita=No such thing as a PRIVATE conversation!

We're in....and I would like those amazing burritos you served up in Cable.
So Anita wants burritos Anita gets burritos. I'll start cooking about 8'ish and everyone and I do mean everyone is welcome to stop in for hot eats, the more the merry, my place isn't all that big so I mean it when I say "The more the merry!". It will be a build your own burrito format so it will be both vegetarian and carnivore friendly, and all I'll need to know will be a rough head count so if you want food let me know and I will feed you until your so full it will actually slow you down (hmph...hmph...Noah).
As Marie has so deftly pointed out I do not drink coffee nor do I own a coffee machine, so you bean freaks will need to BYOC, but I do like hot chocolate (hint....hint) especially Caribou's (hint....hint...hint).
So there you are! I was hoping to do the breakfast thing last weekend but it just wasn't in the stars, so this weekend it is!!!
Yesterday's ride was a blast and what a great group of people so I expect some serious turnout for this one guys and ......oh did I read that there are girls coming now.......well goodie! Nothing like a few dozen ladies to spice things up!!! :eyeroll:
Ya'll take care now(special close just for Tiffany)!!! :jumpy:

I'm planning on making the ride..
Though I do not think I will be able to make breakfast.. I'm going to the 15th Annual Santa Ball on Friday, which usually ends up being a rather late night (like last Sat. - Lee's Liquor Lounge for Trailer Trash's Trashy little Christmas). So no one make fun of me being: slow and whimpering..
Right on for the Liz80's group ride deal..
As for who ever has the noisy crankset - if you want, you are welcome to use one of my other bikes (I also have a RM ETSX-50 - 18" frame, or my Blur has a 17" frame).
Wonder what's causing that.. I'm not sure what bike you ride or what crank set you have on it..
Looking forward too it.. If Monticleo is 70% of what Milaca is, then I'll be happy, have not been there in quite a while..
See you all Sat.
Dan - Thanks for the heads up!

Quit your complaining. If your in/near Burnsville stop by and I'll take a look at them and quiet the creeking for ya.
Might be able to leverage sometime to go ride this weekend, but won't know till later.

so I will definatly be at this ride, and hopefully all of the woman who were supposed to do the ladies ride at battle creek have gotten the picture....
**world domination** (insert shifty eyes here). I know Mara and I get the picture, but do the other ladies...?
oh, and dan, I told Noah that we would get him all fattened up as to slow his speedy little butt down. ;)
Anita has the market cornered on that one, and trust me my life is nowhere near as exciting as Al and Anita's. I'm not even sure if morning wood is Oak, Mahogany, or Pine?

Not that there is anything wrong with that. Balsa can be quite fun to play with, even if it can't quite be used the way oak or maple could. Nothing shameful in that. ..
And I have seen Al fly, maybe we're onto something here!

You are correct. In fact, I believe that if manipulated correctly, balsa can become a much stiffer and durable wood. But, like all wood, balsa shrinks and swells significantly depending on climatic conditions. Because balsa is soft, there is a general conception that it is easy to work with. That is both true and false.:D

Precisely why we were having a PRIVATE discussion on morning wood between the ladies on this ride. God love the women.... There are some things we 'compare' between the men...and not all of it is on wrenching skills.

Katie has asked me to mention that she would like to host an affair at her place about 7'ish that evening for drinks, tacos (can't get enough mexican food in one day), movies (I vote for Al and Anita's private home movie collection......"damn is that hair....I've never seen anything like that???"), etc. You just gotta love when a ride becomes a solid all day affair. Garmin 305 mounted as it is supposed to be on the stem.
It works great even under heavy tree cover. It just needs about 10-20 minutes to warm up and realize what elevation it is at.
It also seems to loose track of elevation pretty easily with all the small ups and downs we get while riding.
I have had maps end 60 feet above or below where I started... kinda odd.
Check the map for Mammoth in the trail guide. I did that one.

OK - this thread is now up to 5 pages?
I'm in for the riding, don't think I can make breakfast, or the activities later - unfortunately I already have plans for Sat.
Though - I do have a coffee maker that I can loan to Dan if he likes - it grinds the beans just before it makes the coffee (I got you covered for coffee beans as well).
Dan just let me know and we can work it out..
James - Glad to hear you can make it, it has been a while.
Should be a great time - I've not rode the Jail Trail, and I am interested in what they have done out in Monticello.
Yep 5 pages, it is amazing what boredom at work can do for a persons creativity and the length of a thread!!! The really sad part was I was supposed to be working out of the house today and started having too much fun posting and never left this afternoon........"ooops, doggone where does the time go?".
I'll take you up on the coffee maker, that will save everyone from the robbery of coffee shop prices. Now being as I don't and have never drank coffee then someone else will have to come over and actually use the thing to make the coffee as I am sure the coffee I make would be horrible. I'll get a hold of you about that.......now onto other matters I'm not sure your excuse of late night partying is good enough to miss breakfast. Friday for me is going to consist of driving to Fargo and spending the day in the office, going to a company party at 6:30pm of which I will leave hopefully at 10:00pm to drive home so I can spend the day riding the next day, so we are going to have to compare lack of sleep at the trailhead Dirk, I think you should probably just make breakfast!!!
OK! SO NOW THERE WILL BE COFFEE!

Dan, raiding my "family educational tapes" is the last straw! And as far as on-line behavior goes, I'm an angel, it was all you fault that chat got shut down before  .
Tiffany, I will make sure you have all the details and Mara, I do believe you also knew what we were talking about, but I can't say what it is here, that's for sure! Just think of buckles and straps, remember? :crazy2:
Katie...I think Josh's tapes will be a better fit! :D
Last, coffee is necessary to start all engines....Marie you are a Saint to put up with a coffee-maker-less man!
Anytime after 8:15am is fine, food will be ready about 8:30am and will be served until everyone is full and happy. :)
My place will be ummm........cozy, nah it'll be fine I have a pretty large two bedroom apartment. It'll be just the way good group gatherings should be! My address is below with directions I basically live at the intersection of Highway 55 and Highway 169 on the Plymouth and Golden Valley border.
Dan Burros
200 Nathan Lane North #148
Plymouth, MN 55441
Directions: Take Highway 55 west off Highway 169 and take a left (south) at your first stop light which is Revere, after the left you will immediately encounter a stop sign at which you take another left (east) onto Nathan Lane, follow Nathan Lane which will bring you around a bend in the road after a few blocks at which point you will be heading south and you will immediately look to your left and see Creekside Apartments, pull in and your there. Go to the main entrance which is in the center of the building and you can call my cell at 612-669-4219 and I'll get you in or there is a directory which goes by last name and will also ring my cell.
Mini gathering sounds like a great description and it definately will be loads of FUN! If you are skipping breakfast but are riding (which of course it would be silly to skip breakfast!) and want to meet at Monticello we should hit the trailhead at about 10:30am.
Right now I've got Marie, Josh, Gus, Anita and Al confirmed for breakfast, if I forgot anyone I'm sorry, just let me know again please, and to anyone else coming please let me know as you figure it out that way I can make sure I won't run out of food. I should arrive back in town from Fargo around 1am Saturday morning so getting extra food Friday night won't work very well so the sooner I know the better. I hope we have a BIG turnout as the more the merry and the more fun it'll be for everyone!!! Remember this is an everyone's invited and should come ride, there will not be anyone who will not have a good time I promise. So if you haven't been out and met people or done a group ride now is the perfect opportunity to gain new riding partners and meet up with a great bunch of people.

Yes....educational....that was the word I was groping for???
The chat thing was never proven in a court of law, so just like Lance I am innocent. As far as you being an Angel, you had better talk to the PhotoShop queen herself to help you with a halo, because it ain't coming from anywhere else!!! :p
And once again for all the bean addicts, we will apparently have a coffee maker on loan from Dirk (thank you Dirk!) so coffee will be available. With that said Marie do not buy me a coffee maker as that would be very selfish on your part.....SINCE I DON'T DRINK IT!!!

Right now I've got Marie, Josh, Gus, Anita and Al confirmed for breakfast, if I forgot anyone I'm sorry, just let me know again please, and to anyone else coming please let me know as you figure it out that way I can make sure I won't run out of food.
include myself and noah in that list...
wasnt there a mention of tacos or something in this thread for post ride that had bike porn, food etc. like an after party. If not it would be possible that I could do something at my house on the way back. if enough are interested. it would be a byob for sure but I could possibly supply some kind of food / snacks. I am guilty of not having any bike porn though. that would have to be out of someone elses stash
I remember Taco Bar, Sex cake, and soft wood.
I hope that this isn't what I think it is, I thought I was done with hazing for this life.

Hey all, we have received a lot of rain in the Monticello area. Camp Manitou has a lot of low areas that will probably not dry, and/or be slick from freeze-thaw. Maybe St. Cloud didn't get as much rain? Might be better to just ride Jail Trail, if we can get a trail report later in the week from someone in the Granite City area.

From the current weather report which of course is most of the time wrong, it looks like we will be experiencing a freezing period over the next couple of days so we might be riding on solid frozen ground, which is both fast and fun, maybe a few snow flurries on Saturday to make it pretty even!
I'll be in St. Cloud on Thursday and Friday, I will also be coming through Monticello on Friday night/Saturday morn so I will keep abreast of the situation and try to keep everyone informed. I know the jail trail holds water pretty well too, but I'll talk to the trail gods up there and see what they say on Thursday night. I can also run over and check it out physically on Thursday too. We're not gonna let a little Mother Nature get in the way of this epic day!!! :)

I did just run out and buy some cold weather stuff though...did you know KOHLS is a gret place to buy gloves. 10.00, form fitting (sort of) and warm. rubber bottoms very nice and the long slevve thermal shirts are cheap too. and better yet they come in tall sizes.

Yeah, any idea on the Jail Trail ETA? I don't think I can swing a whole day and I know my feet couldn't handle it at those temps for two trails. I really like the Jail Trail and I hate getting up early, so I think the Jail Trail it is! I'll see if I can join the festivities at that time of the day!

I’d like to go on both rides but I need directions to both trails. Also, for those of us unable to make the breakfast, is the official meeting time at the Monticello <ST1:p</ST1:ptrail going to be <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:time Hour="10" Minute="30">10:30</st1:time>?

Thanks!
OK I'm back :D and congratulations to Al for being the wisest and knowing even better than I that it was written originally by P,P and M. Of course I was looking for John Denver, silly me! But I guess what they say is true, with age, and Al's got plenty of that, comes wisdom and maturity, ummmmm ok maybe wisdom, I mean for Pete's sake this is the guy who sings summer camp songs when he and I are chasing each other down the hills in Cable!!!
So for Al knowing the answer (and just plain being old!) he receives a freshly filled Growler of Brother Benedict's Mai Bock brewed in of course one of the greatest cities in Minnesota.....St. Cloud!!! Alright greatest city might be an exaggeration but it was filled by a very robust scandinavian goddess of a bartender and that has to count for something right???
As for Susannah, they have reclassified all vacations in Iowa as short trips to hell. It was actually merely a defination change as anyone who has ever tried to tie the two words "vacation" and "Iowa" together figured out pretty damn quickly. I for one had Iowa for two years as part of my territory and when I go out west now I actually go out of my way to drive around the state. Of course it could be because of that one little thing that happened in Iowa City, but hey that was never proven in a court of law, so no it's the state itself. :p Oh yeah but have fun, we'll take pictures and be sure to flaunt them!!!
:jumpy:
I see we figured out the schedule, but I did see a question pertaining to the approximate arrival time at the Jail Trail. I would guess if we really screw around alot at Monticello, which *gasp* it's hard to imagine we would do that, we should arrive at the trailhead in St. Cloud around 1:00 or 1:30, probably more likely 1:30 as I am sure the Burritos will have worn off by then and some may be hungry.
So they are talking a high of about 22 degrees, so it will be pretty warm, but once again just in case I am bringing extra beer!!! ;)
Oh yes and I almost forgot, to all those complaining of getting up early and staying out late, heres the deal........I will be leaving tomorrow morning for Fargo, ND for one of my four times a year meetings with my boss, which will last a good portion of the day at which point I leave the orifice and head to the companies annual Christmas Party, at which point I will eat dinner stay after and converse with my beloved co-workers, while also refraining from drinking more than two beers as the next step in my evening is to drive back home probably to arrive around 2:00am (even though the company offered me a jacuzzi suite), get up cook everybody breakfast (which I can't wait to do and is my absolute pleasure!!!), then go ride back to back trails and then go to Katie's and hang out for........HOLY CRAP......Did she say blow up things??? So you get the point, and I did see a post earlier that even said something to the tune of this....
GET YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT PEOPLE YOU CAN REST WHEN YOUR DEAD IT'S TIME TO RIDE!!!
But if I can be serious for one second. I am looking forward to doing all this and I can't wait to see everybody, people I know and those I don't know yet especially. Since I have moved back to Minneapolis and found this amazing riding scene I look forward to every day and I am so happy to be back that this is maybe my little way of saying thank you and offering up my appreciation for what I have come back to. Crap I'm gonna be in tears if I don't shut up and oh yeah I should go to bed too!!! I get so damn emotional when I'm tired. ;)

Who doesn't love this guy! Haven't met you yet Dan, but I'm diggin' ya. Thanks for putting together this little shindig and keeping the spirit of our great sport alive and kicking.
That goes for you too Katie, hosting the "afterparty" at you're place.
Have fun everyone! :)
We should get to the trailhead at Monticello about 10:30am, if you make that ride then you can follow the caravan to the Jail Trail which is not so easy to find or at least I have yet been able to tell someone how to get there and have them find it easily. Maybe someone else can chime in on that and help. Arrival time again may vary but I am still saying 1:00pm to 1:30pm is realistic, but I do reserve the right to be off by at least a little bit. ;) You can find directions on the MORC Trail Guide for Monticello, if that doesn't help you, give me a call at 612-669-4219.
Also if you are heading just to St. Cloud to ride and you get there early stop in and see the guys at Revolution Cycles, they just opened their shop up there and are a really cool bunch and great to deal with. As some of us know the bike shop can be a tough place to make a living so if you need something, give em' a shot! :)
Thanks Troy for the nice comments! And I can almost guarantee I will probably have more fun than everyone else, our sport rocks, and this group couldn't be any more fun. I am so loving life back in Minneapolis!!!
Just note that when you look at the directions for monticello or mapquest it that when you exit on 25 in monticello that the first right you need to take is now called Chelsea Rd.
Alright I'm heading to focking Fargo now. :embarass: But I did want to chime in one last time and tell everyone the story about grocery shopping last night......this is how it goes:
Cashier: You must be making breakfast burritos eh?
Me: Yeah I am......very good eye.
Cashier: You must have a lot of people coming over?
Me: I think so, I am probably overbuying just to be on the safe side.
Cashier: It looks like you could feed about 25 people with all this.
Me: Uh yeah, probably.
Cashier: Wow you must be the nicest, sexiest, sweetest, most kind, and thoughtful man alive.........
OK I made up that last comment............ :p
Point being that I have a tremendous amount of food here guys/gals, so if your on the fence, first off get off because fences aren't that comfy, secondly get your butt over here in the morning for breakfast otherwise kids in Tangenia are gonna starve while all this food goes to waste!!! :D
Have a great day ya'all (did I spell that right Tiffany?). I am gonna go see my boss, and if I come back unemployed.......well......... SATURDAY WILL STILL BE A BLAST!!!
Happy birthday to Brianna....*sings way off key and the neighbors are banging on the floor*

I-94 North the the Clearwater exit, Hwy 24.
North/East on Hwy 24 to Hwy 10 in Clear Lake.
Left onto Hwy 10 and travel North/West.
You will see the Jail as you approach. It will be on the south side of hwy 10.
Turn immediately before the Jail onto Minnesoata Rd Hwy 310. Road is hard to see and easy to miss.
Follow road to 15th Ave S.E. Park will be on your right. I am not sure where to park probably in the neighborhood west of 15th Ave. Some people park in the field right at the trailhead.

You can park on 15th ave right by the trail head, the road is wide enough, just watch out for traffic when getting out of your car.

Parking is allowed in the field near the Jail trail head or just park along the street, plenty of curb space, 15th Ave. is quite wide.

We should also be able to park in the very back lot of the health care center by the trailhead, that is off street and no one has ever said anything to me about it so I think it is cool to park there. People who are meeting us at the Jail Trail your best bet is to probably call around 12:30 and see where were at. I am still thinking about 1:00 or 1:30 though.

And as for slow.....dirk you have nothing to worry I was the slowest out there, but thats what happens when you dont ride for 2 years then just jump back in regularly. Rodney and I had a BLAST riding at Monticello and the Jail trial. Rodney is recovering from his bizarre injury. He was so lucky not to have had that poky stick jam him in the jugular vein instead of slicing off his ear lobe! Lesson learned, always check your equipment when having issues, as in not being able to clip out. Rodney's Cleats were so loose he could not clip out.
Rodney did have a happy birthday we went to the Fine-Line music cafe and heard Bob Schnieder, which was excellent.

Rodney - I'm very glad to hear you are doing well and all is good.. You def. take the prize for keep'n on the ride!
Also - You're both Bob Schneider Fans! Damn - I've been a huge fan of his for quiet some time, I think I've only missed 3 of his shows here in the TC.. I was thinking of hitting the show Sat. night, but the last two sold out and I did not secure my self a ticket in advance.
Next time - we'll have to have some Bob talk.. I have a lot of his CD's and live stuff.
Hope to see you all on the trail again soon!

:fool: Tough Guy Award: Tie-Up between Dirk (4:30am bedtime) and Rodney.....C'mon the guy almost lost his ear! Glad to hear your ok Rodney.
Most Likely To Kick Our Arse In A Year: Gus, you may have been last but you finished the ride with a smile!
 Wierdest Guy At The Party: Hands down Josh for this one, I'm glad you made the party Josh, my jaw hurt on the way home too. Wait that doesn't sound right.......you do know how to party!
Fastest Rider: Gee.....lemme think about this..........hmmmmm........uhhhhh......Oh yeah NOAH! It's alot of fun chasing you around out there Noah, thanks!
Best MacGyver Impression: Bob MacGyver....errrrr I mean Shepherd. When you get the Camelbak hose mod done I wanna know Bob. Oh yeah and all I have to do is picture thirteen people rotating their arms in circles and I can't stop laughing!
Hostess With The Mostest: Katie Rocks!!! :)
:D Nicest Guy West Of The Cities: Paul, glad you could make both rides and the party!!!
 Tough Girl Award: Marie, the chick grew up in Arizona and I knew she was cold after the first ride but never complained, then did the jail trail and never once did she have anything but a smile on her face the whole day......what a stud!!!
Most Fun Rider To Watch Change In My Living Room: Shad "no I don't need a bathroom I can just change here". Oh yeah and the guy has rockin' taste in beer too!
Quietest Bike On The Trail: Dan and the Rocky!!! You didn't think I was gonna let that one go without a comment did ya Dan?
Prettiest Bike: Brianna's pink toy......wow that sounds really bad!!!
Best Accent: Gotta go to Tiffany, because all of us Minnesnowtans know we don't have an accent!!!
And finally....The Worst Driver: ME!!! Sorry guys!
Now if I missed any outstanding talents or events please feel free to add to the list, this is the best I could do on short notice.
Now let's talk party. A great weekend for a party would be the weekend before Christmas as the weekend after is New Years and I will be out of town enjoying some lovely Utah powder, and doggone it but I don't want to miss the party! I could probably, well ok I would for sure be open to helping put something together. In fact the sanitarium I live in has a HUGE party room with fireplace, big screen (think larger freeride videos), full kitchen and room for about 50 people. I could check and see if it's open the evening of the 16th if everyone agrees that would be a good idea. I've been waiting to put that place to use since I moved here. Let me know if you guys like the idear and I will check tomorrow and see if it's available that night just in case you guys are for it.
Sleep tight all, and once again thanks for an outstanding weekend!!!

Thanks to Dan for Breakfast, and the great ride Sat. I know that I would never ride these places if left to my own devices.
Also a big thanks to Katie for the great party, I guess I was drinking Tequila cause well I would rather not say.:eyeroll:

Whoa! Stop! That award should go to me! I was the one who translated the directions to him, Paul. I painstakingly sifted through text to find street names and identify them with left and right turns. :)
