Thanksgiving brings our family to Alex. 50 degrees means I'm bringin my Trek. Are bikes allowed at Lake Carlos St. Pk? The website doesn't say and there's no answer at the park office. What are some other good trails in the area?

My family has a cabin on Lake Miltona and I always bring the bikes along. The park really doesn't allow bikes on the trails but I go anyway. I have gotten some grief from the old ladies that work for the park service but have never been kicked out!

Oh forgot to mention, if you call the local bike shop ask about a bike trail in town. It's off 4th or 5th ? Street, anyways call them they'll know.. hope that helps.

I have a family cabin in Alex and I have heard that there are trails in Glenwood that are good.

The park ranger left a message on my cell stating "there are no designated biking trails in the park." I don't speak DNR so I'm not sure if that means riding's OK or not. Got the message after 2 days of riding. Oh well. The riding / snowmobile trails are bumpy. Hiking trails are nicer. All are wide enough to drive a car on.

Rode in Alex a few years back. The guys in the bike shop downtown sent me to a gravel pit and to Lake Carlos. They said the park ranger was tolerant if you were super polite--though he did not actively encourage riding there. I rode the park, very politely, and had a nice trip. Waved at the ranger on the way out: no issues at that point. (Probably five years back.)

Can't remember the exact location, but it was only a mile or two from the park entrance. Sorry about that. I was there only once.

We're probably going back over Christmas. The in-laws live near the park so I'll look for the pit.

I snooped around Lake Carlos St. Park this weekend. There are a few gravel pits in the area. The most likely one is next to the park. It's about 30 yards east of the Long Prairie River Trail. I couldn't find an entrance off Hwy. 62. May be one off Hwy. 38. Happy trails.
