Greetings MORCers,
I'm writing this post as the first public announcement of a website I've been working on recently. It's called 612Lockdown.com, and with the help of the great bike community here in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, I hope to develop it into a resource which will reunite people with their lost or stolen bikes.
Right now, the site is very much in the early stages of development, and that's what I'd like to ask your help with. I'm hoping that some of you would be willing to sign up as registered users for the site and start using it however you see fit.
Ultimately, I'd like to develop a community of riders who can look out for each others bikes - kind of like a neighborhood watch for bikes. If a bike is stolen from one of the users of the site, that person can post an alert, letting other users know what has been stolen. With lots of people working together to find a stolen bike, I believe that there is a realistic chance of returning a good number of bikes.
I've got a number of ideas that I'm hoping to implement in the near future, including tamper-evident ID badges for member bikes, an alert network involving local bike shops and police and incentive programs for those folks who make it possible to return a stolen bike. What I'm hoping is that all of you can be a source of ideas - spend some time on the site, and let me know what you would like to see. If you like where the site is headed, maybe you could spread the word and tell your friends. If you've had a bike stolen recently, make sure to list an alert in the forum section - let's see if we can get it back for you!
Thanks for your time and interest,
John Pedersen
