Our web host appears to have had a major outage this morning.

So far I'm less than impressed by our new host. We have more space, but seem to have the same number of outages as before... and performance actually seems worse.

I am going to discuss this with them and give them a few chances... otherwise we are going to have to decide whether we want to put up with random outages and performance issues or pony up for a more dedicated solution.

Our current new host has had a good reputation. The problem is once a host gets talked up among the forum community people jump to them and they grow too big too fast.

Sorry for the outages. The host will always get our site back up as soon as they can. I may post any forum outages or known issues on mtbr.com in the MN trails area as a backup way to communicate with everyone.

It was a little scary there. I broke down and did some work for a change.

Apparently the host had a "routine" server reboot that took longer than normal to come back online.

They have shifted their backup schedule around so that it is not running during the morning, which is one of our busier times.

At the very least I can say they are providing prompt and personal communication on their issues. I believe we'll be able to work through the performance issues with them.

Routine server reboot and backups scheduled at 9am? Erhhh.. ok :p
Doesn't sound very "routine" to me.

All linux I believe...

... at least Microsoft server people know when to reboot a server. If you have to be used to doing it, at least you get used to scheduling it on off hours ;)
