I was planning this late last night with fellow morcers and realized this morning that I will be on the other side of downtown at the Midwest Mountaineering Expo. Sorry, can’t ride this day. I want to go see what new and exciting habits I can get myself into and rekindle a few of the old ones.

This is where I will be on Friday night. A few people emailed me and called but I think we should all go see this instead. We could go here, see the presentation and then ride along and make some stops along the way back to the other end of town. Or we could just all meet there and have a little cruise after. What do all think about that? The presentation starts at 5pm.
J. J. Kelley, 24, and Josh Thomas, 25, just returned to Seward from “a visit with the wilderness” as Thomas put it. In the morning rain on June 10, they struck out on one of America’s most desolate highways carrying all of their camping gear on mountain bikes. The pair left Seward and the Pacific Ocean – and 1,200 miles of potholes and washboards later – they ended up in Prudhoe Bay looking out across the Arctic Ocean. The two adventurers swooped down through the sunny mountain passes of the Brooks Range, shivered through freezing rainstorms, ate more than 5,000 calories a day and deepened their friendship and their appreciation for the wilds of Alaska. The two met partway through a 4-1/2 month trek on the Appalachian Trail in 2003. Although neither Kelley nor Thomas had previously undertaken a serious bike trip, they knew their friendship could weather the toughest situations long after they were physically and mentally exhausted.

Employing no motors and reliant only their bicycles; the team biked over 1,200 miles across Alaska into the Arctic Circle to collect a mountain story. Their work was captured on film and offers insight on what the two encountered on this remarkable journey. Join University of Minnesota Duluth student and team member J. J. Kelley for the a teaser edition of the film and slideshow expedition conversation.

This looks like a really cool thing to see. We'll also have to make a few stops for beverages on the ride. Duh!
Who is going?

Ok on Saturday Dec 30th at 6pm on the corner of 34th and Lyndale (CRC). Just a road ride with spirits. I'm riding my schwinn 10-speed booze cruiser. Ride what you want. Nobody is going to get dropped. The ride will go where directed by the group.

Ok still meeting on 34th and Lyndale at 6pm. Probably going to head over toward dinkytown and infiltrate another group ride if we can find them. If its a little drizzly we will still show but if its pouring rain I don't think anyone is going to show up.
