I just got done working on one of my bikes and I decided to go SS on this one. I installed riser bars, removed the large front ring, threw on a bmx freewheel, and cages for pedals. This thing is so light it just blows me away. I think it may be under 20lbs. It helps being a smaller frame too. I didn't take pictures yet but will tomorrow then I will post them. It was a great learning experience as I also wanted to see what SS was all about. I plan on throwing on some cyclocross tires on it to top it off. Right now it just has road tires on it. Getting the freewheel off was kind of mind boggling since I didn't have a freewheel puller. I just got a wrench and it fit right in there and put a crescent wrench on it and it come right off. It costed me $0 since I had the parts laying around. Tomorrow I will go see how it does but right now I'm like:banana: .....
I have 40/16 gearing on it.
VERY nice work! I love building SS bikes.
I have been building and selling SS bikes for a while now. I sell most of the bikes online since the MN market is a bit slow.
Here's one I built for a kid last week. All free parts for me and most of the stuff was picked up during a yearly local neighborhood clean-up-
This bike had a US bottom bracket so I ran an old school set of BMX cranks. I respaced ad redished the rear wheel, addes some brakes and some fenders and POW. It rides smooth and solid!

What's the purpose of that cushy cover on the top tube?

That looks pretty cool. Love the fenders. My feet wouldn't touch the pedals if I sat on the seat. It is amazing to see what you can do with other peoples throw aways. What gears did you have on it. My gearing is kind of tall and would do well on the street but may look for something smaller. My Miyata looks like that with turndown bars and no fenders.

Thats beautiful. How do you like it? Mine is a tourer with 1.50 tires. I took the rack off and pull a pannier trailer.

Well there's old school BMX frame pad, or really cheap and easy cable guide. ;)
I've also built a lot of singles this year with my partner. Maybe I'll post some pics up of them.

I really dig it. I used to be so anti-road bike but I am now a lover and not a hater. :D I use it to get to school everyday but I really need to invest in another pannier rack; I have one that fits the seat post on my mtb but not the road.

We're barely at 300 mi :D I hope the weather stays dry and cold because I don't want to have to stop riding it. I have to admit I crashed once and the pavement hurts a lot more than the dirt :p

I dunno. He wanted it. I think it's for frame protection when he locks it up to poles and signs.

That's actually a good idea. I never thought of that.

I think it's for frame protection when he locks it up to poles and signs.i've used electrical tape and old popped inner tubes to accomplish the same.

I been doing a lot more deconstruction on this bike and here is what I did: I got drop bars and cut them off woth a pipe cutter. So they are now considered bum style bullhorns. I also removed the rear brake. I installed the brake lever for the front brake as close as I could to the stem. It is a bmx style lever. Even when my hands are on the curved part leaning forward my thumb can comfortably reach the brake and stop me. This also will prevent me from possibly locking up the wheel during stops in slick conditions. There is room on the flat part to allow for my hands to be uninterfered with. I am actually pretty satisfied with this setup. I have been considering making it a lefty drive. I would just make sure to put locktite on the threads of the pedals. I was also considering grinding off the cable housing rings on the frame but am concerned with rust issues. Any ideas with the lefty drive as I have only seen 2 done this way. Thanks
I just weighed it and it comes in at 17lbs. Pretty good if you ask me.
