Now in its third year, IMBA's Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day program continues to improve and expand. In 2006, the day was celebrated in locations as diverse as Yokohama City, Japan (http://allsports.jp/event_detail.php?ev_id=50921&class=mtb), Treviso, Italy (http://www.biketribe.com/), and Chiluca, Mexico (http://xinte.com/). More than 100 groups registered their rides on IMBA's website for the 2006 edition of the annual celebration.
Once again, IMBA corporate supporter Schwinn (http://www.schwinnbike.com/) will supply kids bikes to two lucky participating groups. The first honoree will receive three youth-sized mountain bikes, while the second place group will receive two bikes. Three other groups will receive $100, $50 and $25 gift certificates, redeemable for clothing and equipment at IMBA's online store (http://go.imba.com/site/PageServer?pagename=Store_Landing). Each of the five winners will also receive a special prize pack courtesy of CLIF ZBaR (http://www.clifbar.com/zbar/) "Snacks on Us."
Here are this year's honored events:
Mark Reynolds Fund Ride (http://www.markreynoldsfund.org/), St. Joseph, Missouri

Kids and adults gathered for a ride to celebrate the life of Mark Jeffery Reynolds. A native of St. Joseph, Mark lost his life while mountain biking near his home in California. The motocross and cycling community has suffered a great loss, but his love for children and passion for helping these children lives on through this memorial fund, the Children's First Bicycle Fund. IMBA and Schwinn USA are excited about offering three bikes to this outstanding organization.
Flagstaff Biking Organization (http://www.flagstaffbiking.org/), Flagstaff, Arizona

The Flagstaff organizers partnered with a local chapter of Trips for Kids (http://www.tripsforkids.org/) to organize a highly successful outing. They will receive two bikes from Schwinn USA.
Ocala Mountain Bike Association (http://www.omba.org/), Ocala, Florida

The OMBA celebration started out with a skit on Leave No Trace ethics ‹ presented by a Scout troop from Ocala's Blessed Trinity Church ‹ followed by a well-attended ride. Snacks were provided by local supporters, including the Ocala Bicycle Center and the Santos Trailhead Bike Shop.
Diamond Peaks Patrol (http://www.dpmbp.org/), Lory State Park, Colorado

Over 50 kids came out to break in a new skill development area and a pump track, elements of the extensive new technical riding area.
Sprockids Connecticut (http://www.sprockidsct.com/), Cockaponsett State Forest, Connecticut

SprocKids Deep River hosted a fun two-hour ride in Weber Woods, part of the Cockaponsett State Forest. The club is sponsored by the Deep River Park and Recreation Committee, CT-NEMBA, IMBA and Rock and Road Cycles.
