Ok.. we we survived the summit, levis, and the halloween bash. Next Sat. there is a Milaca ride. I'll feel rather empty if we run out of things to do.

Whats next? Turkey poker run? Christmas costume ball?

Pete K was the idea man, I did the graphics. I think there will be shirts to compliment the rock star theme at some point.

I don't see why not. :D

I'm thinking it would need a few more turns, so maybe a double figure eight.

i vote for an event where we all put old treads on our bikes and just go around skidding on stuff. and maybe combine that with the roller derby. oh and we could call the event "TIRE DESTRUCTOMATIC 2006"

YES! Bohemia any day over crappy Lutsen.

If we get a group together and be there Dec. 2 we all can get season passes to Bohemia and the Porkies for $99!

Yea Lutsen isn't the best but I'm not sure if everyone is ready for Bohemia...I know I'm not; I just started boarding 2 years ago...maybe by next year! but then again, I've never been...maybe i could handle it?

Bohemia can be intimidating, but you do get the hang of riding 100% natural, 100% un-groomed terrain quicker than you think. Also, there's always a better chance of getting several inches of fresh snow up there than Lutsen. There's also Porkupine Mountain 1 1/2 hours closer that's not quite as big as Bohemia but actually has groomed runs and mogules. Lastly, it's cheaper!

i vote no on the bohemia trip. those of us with park boards would sink and never be found in the snow there. instead, go get some season passes to welch village. if you are in college its only 99 bucks for an unlimited season pass. Cant beat that!

and yes, mad river rockets do rock... as long as there is fresh snow and steep hills. otherwise not so much so. but i suck at it, i cant even land a 360 on them.

also so tempting to go to wild mountain... but i know its going to suck so.... i cant decide

I think a group ski/board somewhere around here is also a good idea though.

I checked out the website; its not intimidating as I initially thought. I could handle a few of those runs. Getting there by Dec 2nd is pushing it....thats the weekend after Thanksgiving which is right around the corner!

Afton is making snow and is planning on opening for a couple runs by the weekend.

Sounds to me like we've got more than a couple people interested in Bohemia!

Yes, it is the weekend after Thanksgiving, so that presents a challenge to some. But, I think it'd be worth it. A $99 season pass there beats a $99 season pass at Welch hands down. There's just no comparison.

For those who wondered how long of a drive, it is a bit further. In fact, it's *ahem* about 6-7 hours away. The Porkies are 1 1/2 hours closer, though.

Still, it's 3 1/2-4 hours in GOOD traffic to Lutsen, so for just a couple hours more you get 10X the skiing, IM (not so humble) O.

I propose leaving at noon or 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 to get to Hougton and snag a couple hotel rooms. Ski Bohemia Saturday and get the $99 season passes and then take a vote on whether we ski there Sunday or hit the Porkies to get us a little closer to home for the drive back Sunday night.

Or, if there are at least four of us we could all go in on a cabin right at Bohemia. Just over $25/night for each person that way:

Does Bohemia usually have snow by the first of December?

Trevize1138
11-02-2006, 11:36 AM
They're reporting light snow right now.

They get close to 300 inches of snow a year because they're right on the tip of the Keewenaw penninsula which gets dumped on by really cold, dry Lake Superior lake effect snow.

They not only have no groomers up there but no snowmaking equipment. It's pretty sweet :).

So there is a chance that there may not be snow by then(or not enough)

TML

I would probably not make the Dec. 2 weekend. I'll just be coming back from there, for 5 days over T'giving.

I just drove through Ironwood last weekend and there was 6 inches of snow on the ground and snowpiles everywhere. Granted, it was melting, but the snow season has begun in the U.P.!! That being said, the snow on Dec. 2 could still be kind of marginal. Have to watch the reports.

i am looking at northern michigan university next year up in marquette and for that I will definently need to get a powder/freeride type board so I do not sink in the snow! when I heard that the campus was really quiet on weekends I was like soo... BETTER GO SNOWBOARDING TO PASS THE TIME!!!

So there is a chance that there may not be snow by then(or not enough)

I'd ask people who grew up in the area (Erik Gerrits, TML are ones I know.) But, as far as I know it's unlikely that they wouldn't have enough snow up there by Dec. 2. They kind of have the perfect location/climate for it. In fact, from what I've heard, these recent mild winters have actually created more snow up there than in the past.

Speaking of events and with winter coming and alot of new bike videos available what about a bike video night somewhere. I don't know who has a bike enough house, but if need be I am planning on moving my bigger tv to the bike shop and we could watch a bunch of bike videos, for example...new world disorder 7, kranked 6, the cut, earthed 4 and more.... I have couchs and chairs at the shop so we could have room for alot of people. Who's IN??
