Alright... after much planning it has been made official... the First Annual Womans Monthly ride is planned and schedualed....

Where: Mammoth (chaska)
When: Sunday, November 5th
Time: 10:30 am meet at the trail head - 11:00 am Ride Starts
What to bring: any food/beverage you want to share, a well tuned bike, warm clothing, water, etc.
Ride Leader: Alright, alright so I don't know mammoth well enough to lead the ride (even tho i live right next to it) so we've asked for a little help from Porter. He is the only boy allowed to ride with us, FYI.
The "Drink Du Jour": (as created by Marie) Mammoth MargaritasIf you have questions, refer back to the original thread about the monthly womans ride....

Sounds like a fun day you can count me in. I am always glad to meet women bikers especially if they are bold enough to ride Mammoth! I rode it today on my lunch break, well not all of it, but we did about 8 miles. I know is fairly well; however, Porter is a fantastic guide. If there are beverages involved are they consumed prior to, during, or after the ride? I find a little antifreeze in the water pack a good thing this time of year. Are we meeting at the school or at the cul-de-sac on Lyman?

this should be a fun ride. the turn out is going to be good -- not everyone can come for their various reasons.... but fun will be had anyway.

Also, sunday it is supposed to be mostly sunny with a high of 51! what a great day for a ride.

post up if you are going to bring any food, etc. to share. I plan on bringing some bagels for us!

It's my 2nd group ride. The first one I did was a night ride. It was fun and there is no need to be nervous. We're all unique individuals with different likes and dislikes, but we all share two common passions: Booze and mountain biking. Welcome to the jungle!

Also, if anyone is interested, we could also eat lunch at an actual restaurant (after cocktails, of course). Think how much fun it would be to show up in a restaurant stinking like an gym bag that hasn't been cleaned in 3 months.

So an update for all of you who were riding this today....

First and foremost, thank you all for your help with my crash. I maybe did a bad job displaying that, (however i was gushing blood from my nose so i think i have a good excuse!) but it will not go unnoticed. Marie, thanks for the sterile pads and gauze, Nita and hubby (I still dont know his name), thanks for dragging my butt out of the woods, and Adell, thanks for driving my butt to the ER.

I didn't have to get stiches, but they glued my chin back together. Other than than I am fit and fine to ride. That log pile may have conquered me this time, but next time its going DOWN!

excited to see the photos from the crash. Hope the ride went smoothly after my leaving -- wish i could've kept on riding. :) heres one to tide you all over...

Brianna, I am glad to hear that your wounds were mostly minor; however, I am sure that you have some emotional scars that will stay with you until you do conquer that damn Tie pile. I can say from experience that you are awesome just for having the guts to try it. The bike caused most of your injuries as it came down on your head slamming it into the railroad tie, OUCH! I hope to have the opportunity to ride with you again as you seem to have all the right stuff to make an outstanding mountain bike dudette.

Do not feel like the Loan Ranger, there were plenty of bumps, bruises and scrapes to go around. I do not think there is a time that I have ridden Mammoth unscathed.

Thank you so much for organizing this ride, giving me the opportunity to meet so many female riders.... I ride with guys mostly and it is great to have more women who share my passion.

I hope you are riding again soon, and please keep me in mind as a riding partner!

I'm going to post a picture of my legs tomorrow when the bruises will be at their most colorful. They are U-G-L-Y and they ain't got no alibi! Well...actually, I guess they do.

I know Brianna had to be med-evaced out, but if there's a prize to be awarded for the most beat up and bruised legs and most falls, I'd like to nominate myself. I even have a nice bruise on my ass but I'll spare you all that photo. PM me if you want to see it! Kidding.

Ladies, it was an awesome ride, and even more awesome meeting all of you in person. Can't wait for the next ride!

Nita

Thank you Brianna for putting this ride together. I know you were so bummed out on having to miss the ride after all that organizing and it being such a stellar day. But here's the thing... You didn't think about yourself while you were standing there with pads held up under your chin as it dripped blood like a faucet, then followed by your nose. You were just worried that you messed things up and that you stopped the ride! I've seen enough people get hurt riding and you handled it so amazingly well, it should have been video-taped as a 'how-to'. Sheesh, you were even apologizing for a few tears in your eyes which is a normal thing when you face plant because your nose was walloped. And think of where you face-planted...on railroad ties... Walking out of Mammoth all the way down to the gas station at the corner with your face covered in blood-soaked bandages was probably noted by enough people in cars too. I wish the Urgent Care was open or even Ridgeview, which by-the-way, didn't care for me riding my bike through their hallway, but you sat there patiently until Adelle got the car and packed up your bike. I don't care if this sounds sappy, but you have totally 'christened and baptized' yourself as a mountainbiker today. When I rode back to the trailhead, I met up with Dan to start back and took him past the site of carnage and there was blood all over the railroad ties and the grass where you stood. He doesn't impress much, and he was impressed...

Anyway, I hope you are feeling much better. Its great to hear no stitches, so now there won't be any sew-hole scars on your chin.

It was very cool meeting new friends today and riding with the ladies I've met just in a few weeks time. Hopefully, we can do this again very soon.

Kayakoholic
11-06-2006, 07:24 AM
Brianna, we also got a photo of your blood on the grass. You have indeed christened Mammoth. Next time, you'll turn that log pile into a pathetic brample of such broken and twisted twigs that it will have to be rebuilt. ;)

Two summers ago, my wife crashed her road bike and ended up with a nice black eye and a few other bruises on her face. We'd stop at Mora MN to get groceries on the way to the cabin. People would look at her, then give me the meanest scowl. I was going to get a t-shirt saying "It Wasn't Me! She Fell Off Her Bike!". Guilty until proven innocent.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that there weren't any broken bones or season-ending injuries.

Brianna, I am glad to hear you are able to get back on your bike soon and that there were no further injuries. I'm sorry you were unable to finish the ride. You handled yourself so gracefully (not easy to do with blood coming from your nose and chin).... How's your knee? I thought I remember you saying you hit it on a tie.

Thanks for organizing this, I really had a good time and really enjoyed meeting other women who also love to mountain bike. Am looking forward to the next ride already! :)
