Maybe, if you post up a pic of it. Try to get a couple detailed views. Maybe someone will have a suggestion.

no can do picks, but it's a manito black comp, the name manito says alot, so i think i might try welding it, if that is possible, or i'm i'll just have to get another fork, thats a qr, not a qr20 like i wish it was

You can order replacement crown/steer tubes. Check with your LBS and see if they can order it for you. The last one i ordered was for about $75

try welding it, much cheaper. that is if you like the fork. if not i guess it is time to get what you want.

try welding it
What?!?!?

I would highly, HIGHLY recommend not trying to home brew fix a structural fork failure. Just take a look at that thread with the guy doing a faceplant into his front tire as an example of what the potential downside is.

see, most the time when i'm rideing, its the no helmet around town or the fullface for downhill, so either way i'm fine haha. i might weld it up, i don't think i will thow, might just put a point on a log and try to beat it into submition were it will work agian. Id like to get a new fork, but i just don't have the $$ right now, so maybe around christmas, but it will kill me not rideing for that long.

I second Burke... Don't try to weld it. Have it replaced if you want to keep the fork. You'd need a highly skilled tig welder to get the strength and then it would most likely requiring machining to clean it up. Most likely be more expensive than a replacement fork.

Replacing the steer tube is the best option short of replacing the fork. Welding a steer tube is not an option. If you can't find a steer tube quick enough hit One-on-One and dig for a rigid fork that will work until you get a new fork/steer tube (cheap,it works, and lets you keep riding). Not worth the face plant, think of Hincapie riding his bike with his handlebars and stem a foot off his bike. Good luck.

it all depends on how good of a welder you are and if you have faith in your welds. but I do see your point. that had to hurt.

$75.00 to avoid something like this? Seems cheap.

Even if you're Alex Owens, welding does not seem like a good idea.

I would take the fork to a bike shop or take the bike apart yourself and look to see what is actually wrong with the fork before making any decisions. It may not be the fork at all but if it is look at the steerer tube or the crown and see if those parts come off and if they can be replaced individually or even warrantied by the company.

Dudes, you're all on crack. Steerer tubes are cryo-fit into crowns for a reason, not welded. Do you even know what material your crown is made of? How about the steerer tube? Good luck welding aluminium to steel......

Replace the assembly, or buy a new fork.

Seems to me that if you can move the wheel front to back that far but everything below the steerer doesn't just fall off the bike, you have a problem other than the steerer tube just being "broken loose".

Welding.....? Why bother, just put a bunch of duct tape on it and you'll be good to go.:D

i would really, really doubt that the crown is steel. i haven't seen a steel crown on a sus fork since, well never... did some google searches, "forged hollow crown" came up alot.

stick a magnet to it, see what it does.

but it's your body, do what you want.
