Ok, my buddy James gave me his XTR shifters and I need instruction on the easiest way to install them. Anyone have any instruction on the best possible way to do this? I am not mechanically inclined at all, and I need to limit the front derailer cause I run a bash guard on my big ring.

Do you just take the cable off of the old shifter and drop it in the new one???

Thanks in advance once again for schooling me.

Go to the Park tool web site and it's all there. Or bring it to Levis and I'll do it for ya.;)

Park tools has lots of good info. You will be well served to get some fresh cables for the install.

My rule of thumb is anytime I'm detatching the derailleur cable, I'm installing new cables and housing.

Good rule. It's cheap and it keeps things working nice 'n smooth.

I need to limit the front derailer cause I run a bash guard on my big ring.

That is done by the limit screw on the F Der not by the shift pods.

You just had to one up me....:p

New cables and housing is like a whole new bike sometimes, you get that nice snappy shifting back.

SSers wouldn't understand the scientific lingo of which we speak, and for that I am sorry.

Thanks for the input everyone. I shall attempt this feat when the snow flies and I have about a month to fix the things I mess up while attempting this feat.

There is a lot of good riding to be missed between now and snow.

definatley got to get new housing and cables, just dont forget that they will stretch and have to be adjusted after a few rides. and as for the limiting it is done on the derailleurs with the limit screws. if no one else can help you get this done then pm i have a shop in my backyard with all the neccesary tools and park tool school manual for you to look at

A lot of local shops offer Park Tool School classes where you can learn all this stuff and more. They might be worth checking out.:)
