Hey Guys 3 questions. I'm looking at my 2001 Manitou Black Fork it is in desperate need of an overhal of somesort. my questions are, does anyone know a good place to get this done? how much does it usually cost?

my last question is that I am not against trying to do this myself if anyone can give me any advice on how to do this or any good resources that woudl be great. I'm a bigger guys and would consider rebuilding this fork stronger.

Any bike shop shop should be able to send your fork into QBP to have it serviced by their Shock Treatment center. Tyson Meyer at Penn Cycle Bloomington is good with suspension and they have the Manitou bushing tool. Otherwise check the websites of local shops. If they work on suspension they'll usually list it in their price menu or look at the mechanic bios to see if they have suspension service training. I know Freewheel in MPLS has some suspension techs. A tune up will be around $65 and o-haul around $130.

Pete- Who do you go through to take a suspension service training course??? That is one thing I have yet to do but am really interested in. Thanks.

It won't be "stronger" but you should be able to swap out the coil spring or elastomer stack in the fork for something more appropriate for your weight.

For the price of a full, store bought overhaul for a fork of that vintage you may be better off scouring the classifieds here or on MTBR for a newer, stouter fork - a Fox Float or RS Reba come to mind. The air sprung forks will generally be lighter and more user tuneable.
