Ok, so I've been riding fixed for a while, and I've been tinkering with my gearing.. I've went from 42/17 to now 45/17, and to finish it off, I want to move to 45/16, but the cog won't come off...
since I had a friend put my cog/lock ring on my rear wheel because I didn't have the tools, I can't take responsibility for his idiocy.... I don't think he used any lubricant at all, which is silly, so I guess my question is.. What can be done to get this f***ing thing off my wheel?

use Kroil.
its the oil that creeps, you know.
you can get it at any hardware store benny. or penn off of lake and lyndale has some. do some name dropping (of mine) to get them to let you to use some.

ok, so here's an update,
I used some kroil, got the right tool for it, and then it came right off..
so the moral of the story is, use kroil and the right tools, and everything comes out fine

I think I know why it wasn't coming off before.:eyeroll:

actually you should take responsibility - you let him/her do it

Where'd you score the Kroil? I need some of that stuff.

kroil is a gift from jesus handed down from above for our sheer delight and enjoyment. ;)

hey how do you know what kroil is?... machine shops use it also.. that stuff doesn't smell pretty but it works. Hell you could have just used the Schwinn tools... a hammer and luck.. ha...

well the issue wasn't that, because i had the right tools before too, it was really really on there, I had multiple people give it a shot, and no one could get it to budge, but about after an hour of letting the kroil seep in, it came off right away..

If the administration had sprayed Kroil on Afghanistan 5 years ago, it would have dislodged bin Laden.;)
Moot point now, since they think he's dead from typhoid.

That stuff works real well, but it isn't it a pretty nasty solution? As in better be wearing gloves and safety glasses?

i try to use it in the most ventilated area possible, so when i used it this time, i went out onto the deck in front of our house. and like brianna, i didn't touch it, which is probably for the best...

Once again...
I just got an information card for some reason at work. Looks like if you can't find it at your LHS that you might be able to order it online. Now available in a 13 oz. King Size. Ooooo.
Sorry... the website.... www.kanolaboratories.com (http://www.kanolaboratories.com) .

Noone picked up? Not even the trail fairies? Fools! I remember that thread but had my fatherly duties to attend to.
I've never seen the stuff in any LHS.

I have used liquid wrench and super penetrating oil. They both seem to work well. I am sure there is better stuff though I spray it on and I still have to unscrew the stuff myself, geeze.
