this is for the students at umd, st scholastica and anyone else in duluth who think they need to change/remove/modify the features of the hartley singletrack trail system--
The volunteers who maintain the trail manage the obstacles. What may seem like removing obstacles "that are just plain too big, too tall, etc..." (for you) may in fact be part of the overall trail design. Assuming that you represent everyone who rides the trail is a false assumption.
The bigger stuff that you're ok with removing are "half the fun of some sections" to a more experienced rider than yourself.
So unless you're the trail steward/volunteer for the trail system or you're an expert trail designer/builder familiar with the specific trail you're riding, the best approach in all cases is to leave obstacles that are part of the trail tread alone. If you can't ride it, walk it. If you can't walk it, then you're way out of your depth of experience and should turn around.
