For anyone that's interested, whether or not you ride a unicycle, mt. bike, freeride or trials, us one-wheeled bikes are having a little get together that ya'll are welcome to come and join us if you'd like. I was at the Red Bull Event earlier this summer up in Duluth and met some cool people/bikers so thought I'd share this in case anyone wants to join us or even come watch. Here are the details;
Minnesota North Shore MUni Weekend
Friday, October 6th, 2006
For those who are interested and can make it up to Duluth early enough we are going to meet at the top of Spirit Mountain ( www.SpiritMt.com (http://www.spiritmt.com/)) right by the main chalet at 6pm. We will play around on the rocks and other obstacles at the top until 6:30 giving time for people to arrive late. Around 6:30pm we will ride down on the Mt. bike trail which is a little bit technical but not too hard and it has spectacular views of Duluth! This is free and it does not cost anything. At the bottom we will have to turn around and walk back up the hill and/or get picked up at the bottom by the people/parents in cars that did not do the ride. We will then all head to the campground ( www.LambsResort.com (http://www.lambsresort.com/)) and probably arrive in between 9-10pm. Set up camp, hang out for a bit then hit the sack.
Saturday, October 7th, 2006
Wake up in the early morning and eat breakfast and get ready to go MUni'ing! Head to Lutsen ( www.Lutsen.com (http://www.lutsen.com/)) and spend most of the day riding up the chairlift and MUni'ing down the "mountain". Also, there is the alpine slide if it isn't wet. After we are all tired out, we will head back to the campground where we will have dinner and sit around the campfire for the rest of the night telling stories and having fun. Some people have even been known to go swimming in the nice ice cold Lake Superior to feel refreshed!
Sunday, October 8th, 2006
Leave the campgrounds by 9am, stop at Goosberry Falls ( http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/gooseberry_falls/index.html (http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/gooseberry_falls/index.html)) for 1-2 hours to ride/hop/play around on the rocks and take pictures. For people that do not want to go to downtown Duluth, they can stay here longer to ride the Gooseberry trails (much easier then the Lutsen trails) ( http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/maps/state_parks/spk00172_summer.pdf (http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/maps/state_parks/spk00172_summer.pdf)) or head to Duluth and go to Spirit Mountain or do both! For those who want to go to Duluth, we will eat lunch somewhere along the way to Duluth. Meet at Canal Park around 1pm in downtown Duluth. Ride on stuff around there for a couple hours by the lake (rocks), the mini lighthouse (pier), the lift bridge, etc. There is plenty of stuff to play on and some great picture opportunities. Then for all those interested, go out to a nice dinner at Grandma's around 5pm or so. Leave for the cities around 6pm so we arrive back home around 8-9pm.
T-Shirt
There will be a Minnesota North Shore MUni Weekend T-shirt available this year. There will only be a limited run of the T-shirt so please pre-order by September 22 to make sure you get one. Attached is the T-shirt desgin. The cost of the 8 color T-shirt is $15.
Lodging
Most people will be staying Friday and Saturday night at the Lambs Resort Campground ( www.lambsresort.com (http://www.lambsresort.com/)). Roger Magnuson (roger@magnusoncabinets.com (http://us.f602.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=roger@magnusoncabinets.com)) is setting up camping sites for people but he needs to know who is going and what you are sleeping in (tent, trailer, or car). I think last year it was around $10 per night per person. If you need to get your own camping site, I would suggest doing it soon as the camp ground does fill up.
Lift ticket at Lutsen
Besides the camping, the other cost for the weekend is the lift ticket at Lutsen. We ride up the chairlift and unicycle down the mountain. The cost for the ticket is $29 online and $33 at the door. In the past, the $33 at the door did not include the Alpine Slide so it is well worth it to purchase your ticket online. Make sure you bring a helmet or you will have to rent one for $6.

What to bring – clothes and unicycle gear
Bring some sort of Mountain Unicycle. This means a bigger tire around 24" that is knobby. For some people, a 20" Trials will work as well. Make sure you bring a helmet as it is required. It is also highly recommended to have good gloves, knee/shin guards and if you are really serious about protection, elbow pads. Bring warm clothes as the weather is usually cool and wet. A rain jacket is always a good idea. If you are unsure what to bring, ask someone who went last year. Also check the weather forecast a few days ahead of time.

Unicycling Ability
In order to be able to enjoy the weekend, we suggest being at least a level 3 or equivalent unicyclist. If you are unsure, ask one of the more advanced MUni riders.
