A story of two 29ers, a 26er and fork swapping. I need some advice.

I have a Pace fork mounted with a King headset that I will be swapping out with my Reba that is mounted with a Cane Creek S-2 headset. In other words, the Reba goes from one bike to the other and the Pace goes to the bike that had the Reba.

Both bikes are set up for 80 mm of travel. Steerer length measures very close to 7.5" for both and there are enough spacers on each to adjust the fit. Both have Avid BB-7's which will require caliper adjustment after the switch, but that should be it.

The big question is will the Cane Creek fork race be compatible with the King headset and vice versa. If not, I will further cannibalize my 26er which has a King headset.

Do I even think about trying the Cane Creek and King combos, or should I do it right from the get go and have my old King stripped from my 26er and swap it with the Cane Creek S-2. Will the race be deformed? This would give me two 29er's with King headsets and a 26er with a Cane Creek.

Signed,

Pop the race off. A big flathead screwdriver and plastic mallet will do the trick - work your way around, shouldn't take more than a few strikes. A sub 10sec proposition. You won't deform them. Let me know if you need any help.

Do not try and combine them unless you have specific direction from both mfrs that they are compatible (which I highly doubt it).

Cane Creek and Chris King headset races are not compatible. Voice of experience talking here.
