Just got a new bike a few weeks back from bikesdirect.com.
So far I love it, but I've noticed one potential problem....
There is a small oil leak coming from the rebound adjustment dial at the bottom of the SID fork? I wipe it clean after a ride, but its oily again after the next....it only seems to leak after a ride, not just sitting in the garage.
I downloaded the service manual for the fork, but before I resort to rip'n it apart, or paying the LBS to do it, I was wondering if anyone here knows what the problem might be, and how much work it is to fix?
Thanks-

Some excess oil is normal from assembly. That's not to say that it can't be a leaking rebound assembly, it's hard to say without seeing it.
Any shop should be able to send it into QBP for warranty consideration. You would probably have to pay for shipping and any labor involved (fork removal and re-install, brake adjust, etc.) that you don't do. If the rebound assembly is leaking and not some crush washer that can be replaced for very little cost, you will probably want to exercise warranty on the rebound assembly. Shops would chrage around $45-55 to disassemble a fork and install a new rebound assembly. A shop should be able to get the rebound assembly warranteed (if it's defective) but would charge labor.

Thanks Pete-
What did you mean by...."QBP" for warranty consideration?

Quality Bicycle Products is a local distributor that is also an authorized warranty/warranty evaluation center for many shocks.

It might be as simple as the bolt holding the lowers on. There is a crush type washer on that bolt that suppose to block the 'oil bath' oil from leaking.
If you pull the bolt you'll get 5-10cc's of oil on the floor, this isn't from the dampening cartridge. I've had a washer fail, but this was after a couple of years.

After reading the Service manual closely, I think you're on to something. The manual specifically says that a damaged or dirty crush washer can cause oil leaks!
Since I've never torn into a shock before, I was wondering what a LBS might charge to replace this washer.....or if anyone out there is looking to make a little side cash? How long would this type of repair take, and would the fork need to come off the bike to do it?

I have crush washers in stock and could get you back riding in one to two days. $45 plus parts. Bring the whole bike in to Bloomington Penn, and I'll take good care of you!
