I love to watch trials when I go to events out west. Durango, Vail and Aspen all had great venues the last couple of years. One thing though; they do not tolerate poaching the public spaces around the venue. You are permanently banned from the series if caught, because they are trying to clean up the public opinion of the discipline. It's kinda like the XC riders poaching illegal trails. Something to think about.
public spaces = illegal trails - I must have taken the wrong math class.

Nah, just the wrong social studies course. My point is, if you want places to do stunts, do it right and get permission to build places. Scarring public spaces , benches and railings isn't the way to get what you want. Eventually they WILL put and end to it. Look into the way MORC and IMBA do it and learn. ;)

When morc can get some random rock formations setup and available for everyone to ride I'll be more than happy to show up. Until then, I guess I'll settle for the rocks which no one even walks on lining the Lake Superior shores. Btw, I dont me to be an ass about it, just if you ride nice and make room for the public and watch out for everyone else I've yet to have a problem. Most of the time the police and the public will simply stop and take the time to really appreciate what we are doing. This has happened in Duluth, St Cloud, and even the cities.

MORC isn't some public agency that builds whatever people wish or ask for; it is a volunteer group that builds trail and facilities for themselves and the public to use. If a bunch of guys got together, joined MORC and/or IMBA, took a couple of trail schools and presented a plan to a land manager properly, you could have a place to test your skills. I know this for a fact; it would be a lot easier to sell a land manager on a trials park than it would be to ask them to give up hundreds of acres for a MTB trail. BTW, I see no problem with stunts on natural surfaces, but I do see a real problem with benches, tables and railings. In my opinion it is no better than graffiti or vandalism. Believe me, you will realize that when you are older and are paying the tax bills for the damage.;)

I do pay taxes. I am not a 10 year old kid looking for handouts so please address me with a little more respect.
I am by no means saying that riding on public structures is a good thing however, I still do it. The fact of the matter is, I am the only trials rider in the 80 mile radius of my home. I highly doubt the city will be willing to part with land which they could potentially sell and make money on versus giving me to develop a 'trials park' in the city. Yes, all of us trials guys could get a petition going and drive the 80-250miles and have our very own trials park in a central location. This being said, let me know when you are willing to drive around 90 miles to simply ride your bike on a Tuesday night.
We all can point fingers saying dont do this and dont do that. Yes some of the terrain we ride isnt deemed as acceptable. Some of the terrain you have ridden I'm sure has not be MORC or Imba approved, does that make you a bad person? Have you ever biked on a sikewalk? Have you had either of your wheels off the ground? I know that riding a bike on the sidewalk is illegal. Riding your bike and not having both tires in contact with the ground is illegal(St Cloud State University). I'm sure biking on rocks in Duluth is illegal. How does that compare with you riding Leb and causing erosion? Riding on the street and causing the road to deteriate faster? All very subjective issues.
So just enjoy the pictures and shut up.

I'm sure you're not, that is why I brought up the benches and tables. That isn't something someone witha little maturity would do.
biked on a sikewalk?
Not since I was 10.

I do enjoy the pictures, but I certainly won't shut up. Nothing gets done if you keep your mouth shut. When I was a Park and Rec commissioner and proposed a skate park in Crystal 10 years ago, they thought I was nuts. They opened theirs this spring. Now shut up and ride!:)

From what I hear you have a hard time following Imba and Morc standards yourself. Btw, you must not ride your bike til your on a city street cause everytime you actually would leave your driveway you would be crossing a sidewalk. So, to never ride on or over a sidewalk since you were 10 is a far cry. So, why did it take 10 years for them to open their park? How often have you gone to ride this wonderful park they opened courtesy of you? I guess maybe I should have thought of petioning the town, which I didnt live in yet, to open a trials park. Then by this time I would have my very own place to ride. Maybe, in 10 years they will allow me to ride on a granite slab and actually realize my tires dont leave but a small residue of rubber behind. Fortunatly by then, we all will be flying over sidewalks and more mature than anyone else on these forums.

My, my, a little to much caffeine? I started out the thread saying how much I liked to watch trials. Oh, well, it's still fun to watch. In answer to some points you brought up.
why did it take 10 years for them to open their park?
Sometimes you have to work that long and hard to achieve your goal.
How often have you gone to ride this wonderful park
I had a board in 1964, but I don't skate anymore. The kids in the area needed a park to play. It's hard for teens to get to Hopkins or Minnetonka.
hard time following Imba and Morc standards
I have followed the specs ever since I started the Wirth project. I used to build trails in Anoka and Wirth as many as 15 years ago, but realize that the IMBA standard works best for what the general public needs and wants. I have been to 4 IMBA schools now, and where would you have heard that anyway?
Well, I'm off to work. Have a good day and get involved.
