The trails at Steeplechase are in excellent condition right now. The trails are open all day Saturday and Sunday as well as Tuesday and Thursday evenings. I am also thinking of organizing a night ride if anyone is interested. All of the existing trail system is open and is riding very fast right now. We will be working monday nights for the forseeable future. Recently we completed the new expert level climb that is currently being called Matt's revenge. The new climb will allow us to cut the single track in half for the comp and expert race next year. The course will run the top half of the singletrack, then head down a wide open slalom run before turning and doing a long service road climb to matt's revenge which will then climb you back into the singletrack. It will be a great addition to the course and give a lot more room for passing. Projects that we are working on include; permenately cutting the citizens slalom course which was such a popular part of our race course that we are cutting it into the ski run permanetly and the comp and expert race will go down it as well before the big climb, we are also cutting in another 3/4 mile beginner loop at the bottom of the hill that will run along the river bank and should be the most scenic trail we have yet. Future projects will include additional intermediate to expert level singletrack that should eventually more than double our trail length, and we are planning some reroutes and bypasses of the downhill course to make it more of a expert level cross country descent. These projects should be started by the end of the season.
I want to to talk to Jeff and Kevin before anything is done to the DH course. I learned some new risk management stuff that could very well get it back open for next season!
Thanks

I've riden the course a few times this summer and I really like it. I just got into mountain biking this summer and have riden a number of places. I think Stepplechase is a great spot.

Sounds good Buck, we weren't planning on removing anything from the DH course, we are just planning a better b-line for the big rock drop at the top and recutting the camber through one section. The DH course as you know it will stay the same. Good luck with Kevin.

Right on Thanks Matt!!!
I've been in touch with Kevin, we're trying to find way so to get it back open and I learned some good stuff that will translate well to the XC trails as well!
Thanks

On the stepplechase mountain bike map there is a yellow intermediate loop of 2.5 miles. There is also a red loop that states it's under construction. Is that red loop open yet? If it is, how long is that loop? Is it intermediate level, like the yellow loop?

John, we will have an updated trail map on the RASC web site within a couple days. Yes, everything that showed "under construction" id built and open.
