What a bummer. Raced Welch on Sunday and last night, before I even had a chance to be sore the day after, someone steals my bike and my wife's. Two Treks, a 4300 (blue/silver/clipless) and a 3700 (green/grey). The green one has/had a U-lock around the front wheel and frame as well as a cable lock around the frame. Must have been pretty determined, they had to carry that one.

They got into the "secure" underground parking and took mine off the hitch mount...but left the mount. Perhaps they're coming back for that. Then they'll take the jeep, then my daschund.

This was around Yankee Doodle and Pilot Knob. If you see these bikes, it's not me. Say something! I have to drive to work now!

Was it an older (as in a year or two) U-Lock? A number of kryptonite series, and possibly other brands, locks can be opened with a bic pen within seconds.

I had a bike stolen out of my "secure" underground parking garage a week ago... I wonder if it's related?

good luck

Yeah, I was aware of that and had thought of asking if anyone has tried that. Much like software, If someone can make it, somebody can un-make it.

Interesting. The officer did mention another theft from my specific building and it seemed he'd been innundated with bike thefts recently.

did you report it stolen with the serial numbers to the cops? it doesnt seem like they would do much, but when i worked at penn cycle we reported bikes stolen and we actually got them back, all but 1 time.

Oh yeah. The officer was definitely pleased when he found out I had serials.

definetly check your local pawn shops, or pawn shops within a 100mile distance, give them a hollar and explain what your lookin for in a bike (your bike discription) and if they do have it, send the cops over and they'll take it home for ya, they did it with my specialized fsrxc, and that was 80 miles south of superior in a pawn shop

Miracle of miracles -- my wife's bike was found in some dude's backyard in Bloomington. Luckly, this dude part-times at Penn and knew what to do. Penn called and the bike is now in hand.

What's interesting is that the punks changed the seat (from a comfort saddle to a Specialized racing saddle), pumped up the tires and put new brakes on...who does this?

awhile back i tried that bic pen trick on my lock which is one of the supposed ones that you can do that on. i used a standard bic and it didnt even come close to fitting right. I dont understand what they do in that video. sucks that your bike got stolen but if you look at it with some imagination, it was like sending your bike to penn cycle to get some nice parts added on for free :banana::banana:

always the optimist, jeff

David,

Where do you live? I'm really close to Pilot Knob and Yankee Noodle. I will keep a steady eye on the side of the road for your rides.

I just had my car broken into in my condos garage:mad: . They busted out 2 windows for some loose change!! Thank God I didn't have my bike in the car as I have been known to do when tired. Looks like I won't be doing that again.

Oh, I saw those videos with the bic and tried it myself on a very old lock with similar round key hole and couldn't get it to fit. Still, I decided to buy a new Planet Bike lock...pretty cool with some $$ going back into bike community.

Some dirtballs with 46 stolen bikes were busted according to this Pioneer Press article (http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/15365517.htm).
