View Full Version : I wasn't even on a bike ...

Yesterday I'm at a crosswalk on foot. The sign turns to "walk" for me and I step forward.
I had a big, old, crappy van in my periferal vision, conscious that he wanted to turn right. As I stepped into the crosswalk he lurched forward and to the right. It shocked me enough that I paused. Then, as we were both paused he took that as the clue to cut me off.
He drove in front of me close enough that I could (and did!) smack his big, crappy van with my hand ... twice! He drove on unphased. Obviously he was used to pissing off pedestrians and who knows who else.
So, a little tale for your Monday bike commute: watch out. There are ***holes out there. I know you all know, but reminders never hurt :).

About fourteen years ago I kicked a dent into a big truck/van thing that tore around a corner at a crosswalk along Snelling (I was on foot in St. Paul) and forced me to literally jump out of the way. The driver slammed on the brakes, hopped out, and got in my face, "Trucks have the right of way."
So, now you know.

No wonder that guy in the delivery van was so pissed this morning when he turned left across the Marquette bike lane and almost took me out.

Actually, doesn't anything bigger than a Civic have the right of way? I mean, it's only common sense. You can't see when you are in anything bigger, especially when talking on the cell phone, shaving, or putting on makeup. So give those people thier rights and stay out of their way please......be respectful....:)

Shaving? ive yet to see that haha. Did you hear about that vikings player (i think vikings) that got pulled over and got a DWI. He was watching porn on a DVD player that was sitting on top of his dash while he was umm....pleasuring himself....all this while he was drunk. :fool: Oh btw having a DVD player on top of your dash is illigel, in your dash isnt. :)

You can have a DVD dash unit in your car, but you can't be watching a DVD on the dash screen while driving (you can use it to feed other screens while driving though). Theoretically part of the install of one of those in dash units is a switch that only allows the front dash screen to show the DVD if the parking brake is enabled.
The percentage of those switches being installed is probably close to 0.01%

I think the guy plays for the Timberwolves... But, ya know, he did offer to buy the guy a new car, anything he wanted, except one type. My short commute was fine this am.

It was Eddie Griffin of the Timberwolves and his dvd player was an in dash unit, however still illegal to watch while driving. Funny part is the police didn't arrest him, ticket him for dwi, or even give him a sobriety test or breathlizer, no not these fine officers. Instead they gave him a ride home and put him to bed.

Actually if a store does the installation they are required and do in fact install the switch. When I was debating getting one I tried to find someplace that wouldn't connect that switch, then I decided it wasn't worth the $$ anyways. Problem is it's easily modified to remove the switch, take anybody who knows something about car stereo installation (about 50% guys that are 16 years old) to modify it to work while driving.

The player in question was Eddie Griffin and he was driving a Cadillac Escalade which is truck like enough that he had the right away.

Meh, potato, potahto. I know that in dash ones are legal, but i meant the the ones that sit on top of the dash that look like GPS's. I think there illigel. My brothers friend has a in dash one and plays PS2 on it all the time.:etard:

This is just like anything else. There are the rules of right of way, and the laws of tonnage.

So, now you know. That's not how it happened at all. The driver hit you and then left. It was an accident involving a pedestrian. It is a felony to leave the scene. You got the plate number and make of the vehicle and called the police.
