Hello everyone! My name is Gunnar but I go by macallan2 on the boards (used to be pretty active on a few related to cigars). I wanted to introduce myself and tell y'all how much I enjoy reading everything here. I recently pulled my bike out of storage and had it tuned up due to the stress level going through the roof and remembering how much of an outlet riding used to be for me. Well, needless to say, after a great ride that showed me just how out of shape I am down at the river bottoms I'm in love with my bike again and can't wait to learn about the new technology and gadgets that are out there now. I also wanted to say how great I think it is to see people being proactive about the trails and their management. From someone who never new you guys existed until I couldn't sleep tonight, MAJOR KUDOS. Without your efforts I may have gone off the deep end by now. I look forward to getting to know you all and, once I'm in something near decent shape, getting the chance to ride with you.
Keep up the good work and thanks for helping me remember what makes me happy!

Welcome!! And agreed - nothing makes you forget stress like bashing down some brutal singletrack!!
Post up if you've got any questions on gear or need riding tips - there are lots of knowledgable folks around here.
See ya out on the trail...

See you out there Gunnar! Welcome aboard. Just to let you know, most people within MORC have been kicked out of every other biking organization in Minnesota.:D
Just kidding.

We only let Dan in here because he paid. :crazy2:
Don't let your conditioning keep you from riding with a group. Look at the Group Rides postings and jump in. Even though I don't make those rides myself (lack o' time), they appear to be pretty informal and patient. Even just hook up with a group if you go somewhere. It's one way to improve your skills and endurance. I'll always ride with someone, whether they stomp me (and they usually do), or not, just for the company.

Hey now... I feel at this point in time that Round is a prefectly decent shape. I just figure that my 1.5 hour lap times at Leb just means I get twice the enjoyment of the trail out of one lap than everybody else ;) .
Group rides are pretty good time and I'm always there to be on the slow side at the back, I just don't worry about keeping up.

Kidding? What do you mean, kidding?
Welcome Gunnar. I see you live in Excelsior. The new shop in town (Excel Cycle) has group rides for all abilities. If you have a road bike, hook up with them. Pete H works over there, and the rest of the guys are kewl, too.

Agreed. Everyone on group rides is very nice about waiting up and not making you feel like you're slow, even when you know better ;) I'm also at the tail end of the train -- go slow people!
Welcome Gunnar!
Glad you've enjoyed lurking. You're really in for it now that you've signed on. . . ;)
See ya on a ride sometime!

You're faster than me when I have the boat anchor along. :D
And Hi gunnar. Welcome!

Yeah, I always thought group rides would be much more interesting if all the fast kids had to pull BoB trailers or children along. . .

Well thanks everybody! I like the vibe here. I hit the river trail again today and had a blast. I look forward to riding in group rides in the future.
As for the bike, I ride a Giant CFM4. It's an old school carbon-fiber hardtail frame. I love the bika and was relieved to find no stress cracks or anything like that. I remember when I bought the damned thing brand new and everybody was amazed to see carbon-fiber and all that. LOL Then I added the Palmer FS Ti front shock and thought I was in heaven. Now I'm sure all my cool gadgets that I worked so hard for back in the day are obselete. Hell, I had my first case of bike envy today while ridin'...
... it's only a matter of time before I'm wasting ridiculous amounts of money on parts I don't need again. God I'm glad I don't have a woman around right now!

Woman, bike...woman, bike. I'll have to ponder that one over a cold frosty one. Slow riders get to see more while both riding, and leaning against a tree draining the last ounce out of your water bottle, oh...and suckin' wind. I too am a new member, and I'd like to welcome you and myself while we're here. The threads are great! *sniff sniff* Aww shucks, you guys are the greatest! See you on the trails ~~K
