Die young, save the world.
Yeah, that almost seemed to be the message.
There are problems with the paper, although the level of statistical analysis was decent.
And the always having to translate the whole kJ vs Cal hurts my head. It's basically a 4:1 ratio.

I got as far as the part where they claim that an increase in life expectancy would lead to an increase in population. This is simply not true. If it was Iceland would be bursting at the seams with people.

Good point and to make another. We should eat as much Mickie D's as possible to shorten our lifespan to save on welfare, medicaid and medicare.:jumpy:

That's the main problem with the paper. There are way too many assumptions that don't hold up and statements that are treated like facts even though they are clearly not. The one that annoyed me the most was the statement that since a little over 50% of the people in the US are lazy asses (I believe they used the word "sedentary") that anything the rest of us do won't have any lasting or important effect. Clearly this is not the case.

safe on welfare, medicaid and medicare.
There's doctors down on Wall Street
Sharpenin' their scalpels and tryin' to cut a deal
Meanwhile, back at the hospital
We got accountants playin' God and countin' out the pills
Yeah, I know, that sucks – that your HMO
Ain't doin' what you thought it would do
But everybody's gotta die sometime and we can't save everybody
It's the best that we can do.

I personally like to leave the car running on days when I ride my bike. I stop for a couple of apple fritters at the Roseville bakery on days when I leave close to a normal time of day. On mornings when I leave before the sun comes up, I like to ride Jedi and wear all black. (Can't hit what you can't see.) I never wear a helmet and tempt fait around every corner. I sometimes ride a fixie brakeless, someday I'm going to throw a freewheel on just for fun. I carry a large life insurance policy. I'd feel bad for my wife and kids, but the last thing I want to do is live for a long time.
