Ok... talked with Gus and we'll be working up on the bluff next Tuesday (the 15th).
Things on the agenda to take care of:
- clear a tree on the doubletrack/hiking trail sorta by Crazy on You
- do a bit of a reroute of a portion of Margaritaville that gets hit hardest by the torrential downpours that are the norm. A big tree fell down and rather than clear it and do a reroute eventually, we're going to just reroute it. I might try and clear it a bit so people over this weekend don't have to walk around/over it every lap...

Does the downed tree have potential to become a skinny or some other obstacle? It could be off to the side of the new re-route. Just a thought.:D

I'm with ya Porter... it'll take some creativity but I think we can come up with something maybe... the way it's sitting/how big it is in conjunction with where it's at might make it tough.

I'll look at it this weekend and see what i can think of!

Porter. I looked at it last night. I think it could be used for a large log pile. However it could be cut turn and then made into a skinny. I think we can deffinately do something with it.

Trail work still a go for Tuesday ? 5:00 right ?
Where would we be meeting ?
Should I bring along a chainsaw?
I thought of walking the whole thing with a chainsaw 'cause I can think of quite a few places that could use some work.
The big log on Southern cross
The trees by the downhill start
The big tree down by the parking quary (is that Margaritaville?)
A tree down on the trail up from the driving range
A tree on the double track behind Crazy on you
Anything else ?
I also plan on walking Southern cross with a weed whacker this week some time.

Hi Larry... we'll be meeting up at the top "driveway" on the bluff (the little entrance with the cable/chain gate that is right after the standard silgetrack entrance from the road).
As opposed to walking the whole trail, maybe you/Gus could drive to at least the closest points to access the logs. Most aren't too far from ski trail. For sure your chainsaw could be put to use though. There is tons of tree work needed, and Gus's saw isn't exactly a hot knife through butter.
Maybe see you tomorrow

one more thing, i have no experience with trailwork but would love to share my ideas and another helping hand in the work. would you guys be opposed to or excited about possibly cutting that tree apart and building a large log pile maybe over by the teeter?... get back to me, if your willing to maybe sunday?

Hi Ryan! Thanks for the early review of the new little re-route. We're hoping to keep the same flowing swoopiness of "Margaritaville" while not having the washout problems that showed up a year or two ago on the old trail.
We have about 1000 sweet ideas for the big log, so I don't think we'll be cutting that log up (or at least most of it) for a log pile over by the teeter... that's not to say that something like that wouldn't be a good idea, we just are a little too lazy to carry logs that far. If memory serves there are other logs down in the woods that we can grab some logs for....
This weekend doesn't work too great for me, but Gus might be up there... otherwise we are riding tomorrow night at roughly 6:30 (it's a pretty relaxed ride... one or three people want to hammer... everyone else goes at a pretty relaxed pace and there will be at least one pretty much newb along for the ride).
I'm assuming we'll have another project to work on next Tuesday too, so you're welcome to come up and lend a hand then.
Isaac
Aaaaah, no more log piles!!!!!!!!!! Keep those at Leb!!!!! Build a uber fat skinny section!
I'm going to come down tomorrow for the group ride, as of right now there is no reason I can't make it. I'll probably be runnin' the DH course but want to meet ALL the builders!
Thanks

It's been pretty wet today... no real rain after about 7 or 8 am, but no sun to speak of either. I'm guessing the trails will be too slick to ride without doing damage.
Having said that I'll still head up there and check it out and will probably get in a minimum of a ride all around the ski trails.
