At Lebanon tonight I saw a flatted tube lying off to the right side of the trail, almost immediately after the trail entrance.
After my ride I walked in and grabbed it, I decided to count my steps from the entrance. 21 steps! Come on! Is it too much to ask to take 21 steps to throw away your trash?

I too have noticed a lot more trash on EVERY trail ive been riding the last few weeks. Elk River/Theo/Leb/Terrace/River Bottoms/Battel Creek seem to have equal amounts, Harmon is quite clean :) Its mainly wrappers and tossed water bottles (the brand name kind people feel the need to actually waste their money on instead of using what they have at home) that dont usually fit in cages. Its fun having a pocket full of trash at the end of a ride. Even the road routes i use are getting dirty, must be a problem beyond cyclists (or people on bikes).

When we did road cleanup (Loon State Cyclists), 99% of the litter was cigarette butts, cheap beer cans and bottles, and fast food wrappers. Not exactly your biking crowd. Most of the litter I see at Theo is opn the ski trails and the road leading into the North loop.
I've often wondered what goes through a person's head when they drop trash where ever. I suppose nothing. The idea is that someone else will take care of their crap, and that same philosophy probably transcends every aspect of their life. Someone else will do it for me. One of the reasons I love mountainbiking so much is the ability to get away and enjoy a part of the world that may look untouched. I try to pick up as much as I can, and I also saw that tube on Saturday's ride. I made a mental note to pick it up when I got back, but I forgot  (omg, what does that mean!!!)... So thanks for doing that!

Maybe we could compile a list of those litter bugs names and ask their mothers to come out to the trails and pick up after them. Just because their parents didn't have the foresight to teach them how to pick up after themselves doesn't mean the rest of us should suffer for it. Being considerate of others is a lesson taught to us at an early age, and those lessons should follow us each day reguardless of time and place.
Sometimes trash may fall out of hydration packs or out of a bottle cages. But latley on a few trails it seems that riders are intentionally polluting. It is simple issue resolve. Pick up after yourself, we all would appreciate it.

Preaching to the choir? I would hope that someone that left a tube on the side of the trail had just forgotten to pick it up. Most of the trash I find on the trail I think is usually accidental.
Agre that gu packet tabs are the cigarette butt of the cycling world.

I think if I flatted 21 steps from the parking lot I would have just walked my bike out to the lot to change the tire, at least there I'd have room and possibly help ;). Oh well, some peoples kids!!!
