Do you think it would help MORC to be involved in this in any way? I might check it out...after trailwork of course :D

from bellmuseum.org (on the UofM campus):

Bike-In at the Bell Saturday, August 12
5 p.m.–midnight
Bell Museum courtyard
$8/$5 if you bike in
Pedal to the Bell Museum for the second annual Bike-In at the Bell, a celebration of bikes and biking! Learn how to ride safely on city streets, how to navigate bike trails across the state, how to advocate for transportation alternatives, and how to donate your old bike to a good cause. Enjoy live music, a bike circus, food and drinks from bike-friendly businesses, and bicycle art from local artists. At dusk, see a selection of local short films about bikes and biking, followed by a screening of the award winning animated classic, The Triplets of Belleville (2003). This event is open to all, but tickets are discounted for those who bike in.

I didn't make it last year but would like to go this year.

We will have to see if we can hook it in with my event that day.

Also if anyone wants to do the alley cat that their hosting, let me know.

The race that they're running has teams of 3, and it'd be sweet if we could get some MORCers together to do that. Otherwise I know the registration desk will put together teams if people don't have them, but it'd be sweet to have set teams going into it.

They are having a Alley Cat!?!?!

Cool, I'll have to bring the Pompino then, anyone else in?

I promise to not be the fastest one on the team.

Race to The Bike-In

There are 2 options on Saturday, you and your team (if you choose to have one) can either do an alley cat (speed race) or a scavenger hunt (point race).

Details:

Max 3 to a team. If you need, show up early for registration and we can try to help find you teammates
$3 registration, goes to cash prize
Registration starts at 3PM, races start at 4:30, departing from The West Bank Hub ending at The Bike-In
Bring a digital camera if you have one, special stops will be available for you and your photos can get shown on the big screen at the Bell (while waiting for the movies)

I'd be down, I've got my urban fixie all set, and hopefully by the i'll have my pursuit bars on so I can really throw down.

Hmmm

3 pm start might make it a problem with my day of working and riding at Salem.

I might have to move the riding part of the day to be the scavanger hunt or Alley Cat.

I am actually a little more inclined to do the Scavanger hunt and since I do not have a working Digital, I'll bring the Digital Camcorder and Helmet cam.

I'll post this info in the trailwork page and see what kind of interest I get.

Keep me posted ben as we have 2 for a team so all we need is a 3rd. I would like to see a couple other teams from MORC representing...

I will do some recruiting tomorrow at the Mammoth ride.

Come on all.

Anyone want to represent NMBP at the event? They invited Backcountry to set up a table, but I have to work. (My boss on vacation, so I'm the "Lone Ranger" ) and I think it would be a better NMBP event than just BTP. I'll forward the contact info to anyone from MORC, Backcountry or the Dogs Patrols who wants to attend.

Ride safe,

i can ride either a road/bmx/or mountain bike. Oh and there should definently be an alternate because there is a chance that there maybe a camping trip this weekend, and if the trip is on, im going on that (no offense but camping owns all others) thanks, jeff

It mostly entails them giving you a list of things you need to find, and then as a team the 3 of you go and find them.

Also they said that they'd do their best to fill teams up as they came, so we don't really need to worry about how many of us end up showing up, I was more concerned earlier that it would only be James and I. I felt like we should have at least 1 full team from MORC...

I'd think road bikes if you have them would be the best thing to ride, just because I know we'll be covering a fair amount of ground, and you wouldn't want to mess up the knobbys on your trail bike would you?

So as of right now we have 2 full teams if jeff shows up/doesn't go camping, and nicole wants to ride also.... this is going to be so awesome.

I guess I better bike around campus and get more familiar with the area just in case....Do they give you a list and your team tries to find everything? I have a rather worn set of knobbies that might work

Is there a schedule of events? I don't have much going on after about seven o'clock.

Yes, as I understand it, they give you a list, and from there your team tries to get said items in the time limit that they have set up, or something along those lines.

Is there a schedule of events? I don't have much going on after about seven o'clock.

I know the hub is co-sponsoring the event, so I would go to http://thehubbikecoop.org, and check all that stuff out...

Just a reminder guys, registration for the scavenger hunt starts at 3pm at the Hub on the west bank. If you need directions, go to http://thehubbikecoop.org and hit that stuff up. Also if we're going to meet up, I should be hanging out around the front of the store if possible, I'll be riding a dark-ish red raliegh racord that I switched over to a fixed gear, and it's got the most awesome titec saddle ever, it's yellow, red, and green i think... sooooooo if anyone else has any questions, or things like that, post up, or send me a PM, and I'll do my best to answer them...

:banana::banana::banana: For this event!

We were really really late for the sign up for the scavenger hunt but managed to participate anyway. Next year, I'll have to think about walkie-talkies or something ...Sorry that we missed whomever showed up!

This is why you should all go next year

I don't know what place we got, did they announce it? We left after getting checked in because we didn't have enough money to pay for our tickets.

They announced the winners at like 8:30 or so, I had so much fun doing it, I won a surly shirt, some kenda cross tires, a commuter rack for the girlfriend, and some other stuff like that. On top of that, I got to meet a ton of people like the guys from Peacock Groove, and test ride their 3 chain having, 4 inch tire treading, monster. Next year should be even better than this year, so we should really try to have an organized presence there, because the more people that would show up, the more fun it would be for everyone.
