I hope that this doesn't push municipalities to start closing skate/bike parks.

Article is light on details. Wonder if he was wearing a helmet.

Hmmm he was riding at night too. I am betting NO helmet and I guess there is a possibility he could have been drinking.

riding at night, NO helmet, drinking.
It's the skate parks fault. Close it!
BTW, ten years after I proposed a park in Crystal, they finally built one right in front of the Park and Rec center. Douglas Drive and 49th. Everytime I go by there are lots of kids using it.

the repub. eagle said that it happened at 8:39 I believe, which is still semi-light, and being a skater I would quess pot over alcohol.

true, pot over alcohol alot! ya i ride the skate park alot on my bike and love showin up some bmxers, but i always see skaters either stoned off ther ass or sittin ther smokein on the stairs. plus i have yet to see one skater besides lil kids with a helmet on... thats in 3 years!

yea, the whole skateboarding with a helmet thing never really catches on for most kids, unless the park enforces it, which most of the decent parks do, or at least have frequent police patrols that enforce that sort of thing.
It's too bad stuff like this has to happen, I hope the park tightens down on rules enforcement, instead of closing it.

They are now saying on the news that it was not a skating related injury; The autopsy is focusing on something like an undetected cardiac problem, or something like hat. (Maybe heat stroke?)
Ride/skate safe,

Okay, the no helmet thing is something I can see being a possible cause. I would just like to let a few of you know, your stereotype on skaters is a bit off. Most of them don't drink or do drugs. Actually, it is quite cool to be straight edge if you skate. Oh well, I guess some of you just have a poor opinion of skaters. But football, basketball, hockey, and all the other main stream sports.....we know none of those kids drink or do drugs.....:eyeroll:
It's not often people have died skateboarding or BMXing, but it does happen. It's a bummer and I feel bad about it, but more people die from others sports than they do skateboarding. Might as well close down all the NASCAR tracks now.......what a better world it would be then.....:D

if you watched the news, it was said that the kid was not wearing a helmet, he was not using any drugs or drinking (from the autopsy) and that he actually never hit the ground. he was grinding down a a rail that was like 48" off the ground or something and hit his groin, he then laid down on a table, and died.
its super sad, and a reminder for anyone who bmx's and skates to be safe.

I have been to Superior.....so I am not surprised and I don't think it can be narrowed down to just skaters.....:p

The Chanhassen skatepark is bad. When i used to skateboard i went there a lot and every day i witnessed 2-3 drug deals, stoned skaters sitting under the half pipes smoking, and of course....no helmets. Im sure this happens at every skate park but what really shocked me is that its literally 50ft. away from a police station!

I have never seen any mountain bikers get stoned.....never in my entire life....:laugh:
Why do you guys insist on pointing out that skaters are such bad people??

Skaters arent bad people, they just have a horrible reputation. One of the reasons i quite skating was because of that and that my shins were thrashed....actually there still messed up from biking:eyeroll:

Chanhassen skatepark is notorious for that. The reason why is because Chanhassen doesn't have a police force. The buildings that it's by are the library, fire station, an elementary school, and a post office. Most skaters know what goes on there, and if they don't want to be near it, usually go to the chaska park, or eden prairie, which both have frequent police patrols.
I still skate infrequently, but since i've grown up, and been able to drive, i usually skate 3rd lair in golden valley, because it's the sickest thing ever, and they know how to respect the ramps there, or i just hop on my board and head downtown.
