Any trail work scheduled in the near future ?

We went up last night and picked up what I think is the last bit of tape and GU packets from the race (there was a miscommunication and we thought those sections were walked right after the race).

Gus was talking about having a big trail day one of these upcoming weekends, but anything that will be in August I probably won't make due to other plans (whether they be races, or fantasy football, or other things) and if it goes into September we have to work from 10-2 as hunting begins.

I'm guessing we'll keep on the Tuesday night schedule at least through August, but not sure.

We need to put in a few more technical obstacles! A camelback in the quarry, another teeter somewhere, some skinnys...you know, the usual. I mentioned them to Gus but I think he forgot. I have more than a few ideas.

We really should have some sort of a brainstorming session as I've got some items on a "wish" list too...

- find a way to get a real rock garden in someplace
- connect the end of the downhill trail to another trail somehow... logically one of the roads up from the golf course, but would it be possible to somehow latch up with "Southern Cross"? Now that would be a loop
- one or two skinnies in "Love Shack" after the teeter, one a real beginner one, one an intermediate (maybe then have one "expert")

etc. etc.

I know that Gus wants to do a Dual Slalom course yet this year, which would be cool I guess. I'd like to refurbish/replace the trees in "Crazy On You" that were pulverized at the race... maybe fix up a couple of the sections of trail that are washing out a little...

yikes... that's a lot

I'm actually thinking of trying the 12 hours of 'Kato on Saturday, so if it's Sunday I'd probably be down wit dat... but don't let that stop you from meeting Sat....

Well, it sounded like Gus was hitting up the parade on Sunday for River City Days... so whatever we do would have to be before or after that (no clue how long it is, but I think it starts at noon or one or something)... I'd probably be up for a bit of a ride and discussion of what people would like to see during said ride... or something... I'm pretty much free all tomorrow, so those with actual lives could select the time.

I was hoping for a fairly early ride, although I might be riding my old rigid KHS steel, 9-930ish, unless we get alot of rain.

Beauty... I was thinking that I'd actually like to see how many laps I could do in a day since I wimped out on driving to Mankato... 9 sounds good to me.

Hopefully we don't get any downpours today. A couple sections of doubletrack are badly rutted (these sections seem to always washout sometime during the year... goofy ski trails...) and won't get better if we keep getting massive dumpings mixed into weeks of no moisture.

It was absolutely pouring at 2:30 last night when I woke up. The trails will be pretty muddy this morning for sure, maybe by late this afternoon things MIGHT be dry enough....

I am thinking that four hours of bean bag toss after a 5k was a bad idea... legs sore

So did you guys do any trailwork on Sunday? I'll be down there all next weekend too so I may be up for a little work. Although, I may ride Welch so we'll see. Anyone want to pre-ride on Sat.???

I, and hopefully a few others, are heading out at tennish to pre-ride.

Nope, we never got organized enough. Went riding instead when it was apparent that nothing was going to happen. Saw the following:

- big tree down in Margaritaville
- the doubletrack up from the 5-way is horribly washed out. We need some nice steady rain instead of this .75 inch in a half hour stuff that we've been getting. This is ski trail, so don't know if doing a reroute of the bike trail would help this out. Could a long technical climb be squeezed in to the left of the doubletrack (but without screwing up the DS area that Gus is trying to set up)? Personally, I'd rather see that than a short DS course (at least in that area...) as I don't know that there is enough elevation/square footage to create a sweet, worthwhile DS track/trail....

Don't know if we're having trailwork tomorrow night or not. I'd almost vote for not, but I'm a wuss.

Isaac

P.S. This weekend is out for me... painting/staining a fence on Sat. and racing Welch on Sunday blind, then quick cutting out for a fantasy football draft out west.

I dont think that a DS course on Memorial would be a good plan. I think there are better ways to utilize the land up there. Yes there is some good elevation change but I think it would be better if we added to the single track instead. Dont get me wrong, the DH course is pretty sweet. I just see the DS as being a waste of time and effort, although some may say differently. Sorry Gus, just my thoughts. I still think we should get together for a little brainstorm to come up with some new trail features.

I can hear the arguement that a DS wouldn't really see much use there, can we possibly expand into untouched areas maybe a nice singletrack climb in between southern cross and the DH? there might be more room there than inbetween the DH and the ski trail. does anyone have a map or arial photo showing the park boundries?
