At the North Metro Trail Meeting, I volunteered to look into the Vadnais, St. Paul Water Utility area for possible mountain bike trails. The name of the park is Vadnais-Snail Lakes Regional Park. The includes the area around Sucker Lake, Vadnais Lake, land near Snail lake, and Grass Lake. I found a map on the Ramsey Country web site at:
http://www.co.ramsey.mn.us/NR/rdonlyres/2A6C7DEB-7C73-4878-A632-18FEA355C095/2949/VadnaisSnailLakesRegionalPark.pdf

The land around Sucker and Vadnais Lakes still looks like it is owned by St. Paul Water Utility, but is managed by Ramsey Parks and Rec. I biked around the park looking for possible trails and found several. I have included a map showing these trail possibilities. They also have cross country ski trails in this area as shown on the maps, which hopefully means they are open to more trails. I have included a few pictures of the area to show people what this area looks like.

I think the best place to start would be to call Ramsey County Parks & Rec. Since I don't know who, would someone who knows the MORC's contact with Ramsey County Parks & Rec be willing to call about adding mountain bike trails to the land around Sucker and Vadnais lakes part of Vadnais Snail Lakes Regional Park?

It's a great little area, and if it's done right, could yield a good 2-3 miles of singletrack. The tricky part is going to be getting the water utility to buy off on the idea, which had been the obstacle in the past.

Doesn't mean that it won't work, it just may take a little more doing.

Karl,

Thanks for the info and the pictures. It's close to my house and like Eric said, it's a great area. Since even the St. Paul water utility area seems to be managed by Ramsey Cty. Parks, I can check that out with John Moriarty, our contact there.
