The return of the Minnesota Mountain Bike Summit (Weekend of October 7-8) marks the triumphant return of the MORC Film Festival.

Now entering its third year, the film festival will once again be held at the fabulous Riverview Theater in Minneapolis. It's a chance for amateur filmmakers to show their work on the big screen. Past winners Adam Buck and Scott Haraldson have set the bar high for entries, and the competition is sure to be intense.

For all of you budding lensmen and lenswomen, here's the scoop: MORC Film Festival entries must be amateur, bike-themed short films (10 minutes or less in length). For complete information about submitting a film, contact Brandon at staff@morcmtb.org.

Want to keep this in circulation, and make sure everybody out there gets the word.

In the past three years, we've been fortunate enough to receive amazing entries for the MORC Film Festival. Jaw-dropping stunts, sinister plot lines, knee-slapping laughs, and just about everything in between. But we need your help to keep the tradition going.

Got an idea, but no camera? Post here and hook up with someone you can partner with.

Got a camera but need riders/actors? Do your casting online through the forums.

As an extra bit of motivation, I'll throw in that we're negotiating to secure the rights to show the sequel to last year's MORC Film Fest feature, The Collective. That's right, folks: MORC is working to bring ROAM to the big screen, just for you.

Now get out there at start filming the next ROAM.

Or the next Rad, for that matter.

Charles,

One thing that we missed out on with the Film fest last year was Local Promotion.

We HAVE to make sure that we have some type of advertising for this event in things like The Star Trib, PP, and for sure City Pages, Rake, Onion, etc.

I do not know what a full page or half page ad in CP runs, but they might cut us a deal since we are a NP and the procedes of the event are goig back into the trails... right?

With only word-of-mouth last year we had a great turn out, if we get it out to a wider audience I am sure we could sell out the theatre.

You're right. This is just one of the many areas around the Summit and Film fest in which we could use some help.

My experience with media leads me to believe that they aren't special ad rates for nonprofits, although I'd love it if there were. If anyone knows differently, please post here.

And if anyone could assist us in getting media coverage for the event, raise your hand and make yourself known. Ideas are great. Help is even better.

Well I've got my idea for what I want to do for this year. Anyone know of any other good channels to spread this word of mouth for film enthusiasts? It'd be nice to see an even higher level of films being entered this year.

I've gotta work Friday and Saturday :cryin: but I'll be there Sunday for sure.

Date is Sunday, October 8. Time is being confirmed, but I believe we're shooting for 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The thought is, after the Film Festival, we'll go across the street for lunch and the awards presentation, then wrap things up with a group ride to Theo.

Excellent - Last year's winner will be defending his title! Who else is in?

BTW, Scott, a friend of mine who lives in Maryland sent me a link to your film on YouTube.com. You're officially famous.

Film Fest Update #1: ROAM is a go!

Just wanted to let everybody know that we've secured the rights to show ROAM at the MORC Film Festival. It's only fitting that we'd show the sequel to The Collective at the sequel to last year's break-out Film Festival.

It sounds like there are a few competitors getting flicks ready, but we need more. Post here to find help, bounce around ideas, or make plans to film your own chain-powered masterpiece.

Anyone know of any other good channels to promote this? Each year it's always kind of a mystery how many people are going to enter films.

Which reminds me....I should get crackin!

Precisely.

I know in other discussions on the site, there's been a lot of talk about other bike-related discussion boards online. I personally don't post or read up on these sites, but it sounds like there are plenty of people out there who do.

If that's you, I'd like to ask for your help:

Please post a link to this thead on any and all bike boards or blogs you frequent.

Got a blog? Pimp the Film Festival on it.

Got an email address book full of gearheads? Send out an email to get them involved.

MORC has always counted on word of mouth as its most effective marketing tool. The Film Fest can grow in the same way. But the words need to get to the mouths first. Take a few minutes to help us out and we'll bring you a bigger, better Film Festival.

Want to give this thread a bump and see who's working on flicks.

Buck and Scott sounded like definite yesses, heard some murmurs from others. So post up if you're working on a flick or even just thinking about it.

If you're working on an entry for the Film Festival, here's a few things you might want to know:

The Film Festival will take place on Sunday, October 15 at the Riverview Theater in Minneapolis. Show time TBA.

If you're registered for the Summit, admission is free. Otherwise, it'll be $5 at the door. And worth every penny.

Films should be 10 minutes or less. Other than that, the only real rules are that your film should have something to do with biking. Nudity, profanity and gratuitous violence, while fun, are strongly discouraged for the purposes of the Film Festival.

Films should be submitted on DVD, or in a file format that can be transferred to DVD.

All film entries must be submitted by Sunday, October 8. A contact person for submissions will be posted here.

Questions? Post 'em here and I'll do my best to track down an answer.

C'mon, man. I know you--you could whip up something brilliant over the weekend. We need to fire up some competition here. We can't just hand the title to Scott again--or to anyone else for that matter.

That goes for everyone else out there--get cracking on those film ideas. If Buck's serious about sitting this one out, the field is wide open. Let's see what people can do.
