Hi, I'm DaHowie and I'm a NEWB!
A few co-workers have been into MTB for a while. They have been asking and offering to take me out on a borrowed bike. Id did have BMX bikes as a kid and remembered how much fun I had then. They finally convinced me to get a bike.
I bought Rockhopper Comp Disc  2 weeks ago. I wanted a good beginner to intermediate bike that was a good base for upgrades in the future (I already want a new seat and pedals). I also, bought a good helmet and golves. The first few rides were lakes and greenway. I wanted to get used to the braking system and the, new to me :alien:, trigger shifters. Then i was on to bigger an better trails.
I live between uptown and Lyn/Lake and Theo. Wirth is a short ride/drive from me. I have been out several times the past 2 weeks and I am having a blast . I do fall (and bleed) quite a bit. The stuff I could do as a kid is far beyond my skills at this point. I'm thinking about
The wife thinks I'm crazy. She was kind enough to stock up on first aid supplies, though. I will probably need these anyway going forward. That and ibuprofen for the pain. :D
That brings me to the yoga. I found muscles in my abdomen, because they hurt, that I didn't think I had. I've heard that yoga is great for strengthening your core muscle group. MTB is better as it combines a vigorous aerobic exercise. The quick bursts of required of your muscles to turn the cranks and manipulate the bike seems akin to weight training. Just an observation.
Anyway, I need to go pickup my new bike from getting repaired . "If ya don't break it, you aren't trying hard enough!". It was only a spoke anyway. I may have to but NEWB in red on the back of a t-shirt for you guys benefit.
