If Anyone has heard any updates on conditions of the Milaca Trail or upcomnig workdays could you give me a heads up. I'd like to get out there and do some long training rides adn I'm hoping this DRY July has made alot of the trail rideable.

Any updates from rides in the past 4 weeks would be great.

I was out there over the 4th weekend. It was quite overgrown and even some downed trees I had to climb over. Not the greatest conditions but it could have been cleaned up since then.

I have not been up there this year yet but we're working on cleaning trails. Just did Hillside yesterday, Monticello next week, so maybe Milaca the week after that.

Rode Milica on Saturday (God I love that place) for the first time this year. Yes, it's a little overgrown, yes there were some down trees, but this has got to one of the best years to ride it! This dry weather made it even possible for us to cross the little creek that had a couple of boards crossing it and ride the way back section. Those rock piles are great. We hadn't been there so long that the back section was like a brand new trail. That section doesn't look like it's been ridin in years, yet it was still a blast. That place has a got so many type's of riding available. I'll be back soon. Thanks to the guys keeping the trial up.

I rode Milaca last Thursday...It's overgrown in some parts, but still fun.

I'll be in Milaca this Saturday for a grad party and I'm planning to hit the trails saturday morning before hand. Would there happen to be somewhere in/near town where I may find a shower to use? Truckstops often have this option and I'm not planning on getting a hotel room. Campgrounds, beaches? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

The trail starts right next to the Rum River. There is access from the town park side opposite the trailhead. Actually you'll probably park at the town park and ride to the trailhead over the old RR bridge. At any rate, the river is good for washing the dirt off. I've done it many a times.

I rode Milaca on Friday evening (8/4) for the first time. I invited my sister and her finace to give it a try as they recently moved to Sartell. They have very little trail experience, but I was prepared to guide/babysit them.
We made good time as there is pretty much no elevation change and the trails are pretty smooth. Soon however, we were back at the start after only four miles. I stated that I was going to go for another lap and find where I missed the turn to the back section. They weren't tired yet, so they came along for more.
We found the turn off Beaver Ridge and headed out back. When we got to the Bog section I started to wonder how the trail ahead would be. You could see there used to be a bridge there. The trail was hardly ridden at all after that. It seemed as though it was pretty much abandoned. It was overgrown and their pace was getting pretty slow. A few times, I would get far ahead and when the trailed looped back around they'd be 10-20' away through the brush so I had them cut across to save time. The raised wooden section was really neat, but a tree had fallen on it and taken out a good chunk. When we got out of the woods we were back at the marsh and there was only a little log to shimmy across. This was not the adventure they were looking for and they were definitely ready to be done. I didn't even point out the fact that you could've just skipped that whole part.
We ended up getting back to the vehicles right at dark and luckily they still let me stay at their house despite being a little crabby about how long the four hour adventure/fiasco.;)
So, overall I liked it. If I went back with them or my girlfriend, I'd take the bypass at the bog. I'd actually like to do it by myself with lights at night. It's a good place to take someone if you're trying to get them into trail riding. The difficulty of the ride is pretty much just in the distance you decide to tackle.

I rode Milaca for the first time this weekend on my way to G Rapids. I didn't have enough time to hit the back trails and stuck near the Dead Man's and Pot Hole Maze sections. Did you guys hit up the Pot Hole Maze? Because that section had some serious elevation changes, at least in my novice opinion. Overall, the sections I hit were fun. I wouldn't make the drive from the metro just for the trail, but I would recommend it if you're in the area. Thanks Blast.
