Ok heres the situation. I ride for about 2-3 miles then the seatpost bolt loosens then the seat goes almost straight up. Not good for the jewels. Then off comes the seat bag, fix the seat, tighten bolt. Repeat every 2-3 miles. I weight 220 so I'm sure this has something to do with it but since the seat and post are stock is there something I can do to them or should I get a new one, if so what do you recommmend?

Thompsom seems to be the gold standard in seatposts. They usually run ya $60-90 depending on where you go.

Check the nut(s) and bolt(s) that secure the seatpost's parts. They may be stripped which would be why they're loosening up. It also could be other parts of the post that are stripped. It all depends on the kind of post.

I would try blue locktite first - that should stop it from loosing up.
If it is stripped, you won't be able to tighten it up.
Also, make sure you are torqueing it down enough.

I've looked before and it doesn't appear to be stripped. I think I'm in the market for a new post. Thomson it alittle high but if it will hold to my royal behind then maybe. I might try locktite first.
Thanks for the replies.

Based on your post am I correct to infer that you have only one bolt? Sounds like an OE post - maybe even one of the terrible Ritchie products.
Get a two-bolt post - Thomson, RaceFace, Titec, anyone. The one bolt variety is notorious for slipping.
Scour the classifieds here, MTBR or eBay. If you go Thomson, I've got a guy for you to call (PM me).

the splines that hold the tilt adjustment on your post are shot. no amount of locktite will help. your post is crap. throw it out and get a thomson.
