The trail system at steeplechase is now open Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as all day saturday and sunday. There is an on your honor paybox located next to the trail head on the right side of the chalet. Everyone riding must pay the fee ($5) and sign a waiver. The owner is very serious about this and will only allow us to continue to use the trail during the week as long as everyone respects the pay box. Also we will be scheduling regular trail work nights on Monday nights starting in two weeks if your looking for a chance to help out.

Will the gate be open during all these times, or is there another way to get in? I went out on a Saturday a few weeks back and the gate was closed and since it says on the website for Steeplechase that if the gate is closed, you're not supposed to ride, I just left. Fortunately it is only like a 20 minute drive one-way for me to get out there, but I still don't want to make the trek if I'm not going to be able to ride.

I believe I remember that saturday as being day after a torential downpour. I went out there real early that morning and checked the trails and they were far to wet to ride. That was the weekend of june 10 or 11th right. Anyway I was out there at 8 30 and they were to wet to open the gates. If the trail is okay to ride on they should be open. We have had some internet issues and some communication issues due to the owner being out of town for several weeks, but from now on it should be better posted. Also most saturday mornings from here on out even if the trail is to wet to ride we will still be doing trail work. Also look for trail work starting on monday nights in two weeks. We have some great stuff planned and lots of trail to add so hopefully people can get out there and ride and maybe help work a little. So anyway gates should be open whenever it's dry enough to ride.

Yeah, you're right. It was after that heavy Friday night rain, so I guess I wasn't surprised that it was closed, just a bit disappointed since it said on the website that any closings would be posted (but you explained why that didn't happen).
Glad to see that it will be open more. Hoping that I can get out there a few times a week (I need the practice :-)
Thanks for keeping us up-to-date on this stuff!
