It's not a homebrew, but this light looks like it will be pretty bright. 30-watt HID for $350

Somebody posted several months ago about this bulb. It was intended for ATVs and motorcycles, but we knew that it was just a matter of time before someone adapted it for a helmet mount.

For do-it-yourselfers, the HID bulb plus self-contained inverter in a nice fixture costs about $150.

For reference, most "normal" bike HIDs are 10-13 watts. This one is 30.

I'm sticking with homebrew over-volted halogens for now.

If you think a 10w HID can blind you, I am guessing that 30w will put your night vision out of commission for a decent amount of time! Ha ha ha.

my buddy has one of those 10w HID lights. i call it the sun on your head. it's so fricking bright that one guy i was riding with once said it almost takes the fun out of night riding cuz it's so bright. i couldn't imagine what the 30w is like.

Hope that Bob does not take this lamp to be a challange to his homebrew lights. He already lights up half the trail for the rest of us.:D

Not to be smug or anything, but I don't think the 30-watt HID will be as bright as a 35-watt halogen running 20% overvolted.

Still, it seems like a nice light for the price.

I was also amazed by the price. It's way brighter than the 10W HIDs out there and the run time of 3.5 hours isn't too shabby and it's still $50-$120 cheaper than the HID counterparts from the other companies. Looks like a good deal. Although, I guess my 10W HID is already plenty for me, so I don't see any upgrade in my future. I've already probably made night riding too easy with my current lights!
