Here's the official (or as official as it will get) announcement....

What: Muddy River Downhill Race
When: July 15th, 2006
Where: Memorial Park, Red Wing, MN
Entry Fee: $10.00 (day of registration only)

The details:

In an effort to try and get some downhill racing tied to the MNSCS series, Gus is holding the first DH race in Red Wing on the newly constructed downhill course up on Memorial Bluff. Huge props to Buck, Thor, Pete, Dusty, Greg, Ryan, Porter and anyone else who helped with this trail. The trail wouldn't be there without your help.

We'll start to recon walk and stuff at 10:30 am. First runs will be around 11:30 or so I think. The entry fee will be 10 dollars at the door, with the top three places paying out.

There will be B-lines around everything that isn't rollable (still need a bit of work on one of the lines). I'll have rolled down everything with my rigid singlespeed before race weekend just as a last safety check (and I have no skillz). There are some definate chances to really fly, but also some more techy spots. A little something for everyone.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have. I probably won't be able to answer them, but I will forward them to Gus (gusman here, but his 'puter died).

Isaac

P.S. BIG Thanks to the City of Red Wing for allowing us to build this trail! They are a treat to work with.

Hey all, comin to ya' from Yankton, SD. I need some more info, but I think I will be bringing my crew up for the race. Now... HONESTLY.. is this race going to be worthy of a 9 hour drive? If so, I've got a half dozen race-ready fools from the Black Hills considering this as well, and we're all pinners.
What can we expect? Any pedaling or true DH? Estimated finish times? Preride?

And on a second note, any riding to be had after the race?
ANY input would be much appreciated, as we ned to start making plans now. I already emailed someone about this from the muddyriverrace.com site and got some pretty crappy info.

there's camping at the park there from what I heard before, right? How much is it and where?

Ummmm... to answer your question. Kind of... the city had approved camping, but then changed their mind. I still think there may be a limited amount of that available, but Gus would have to confirm or deny. There's a State Park a few miles down the road (Frontenac State Park) and probably other stuff that I don't know about. I'd send Gus (I think gusman on here) a PM if you'd like to camp, see what he can do.

Oh... and Cody... You can ride anywhere and everywhere you'd like after the race... if you haven't died of heat exhaustion.

Wish I could be there to witness the carnage...

might want to check into the DH section at Steeplechase, I don't know what condition it is in, but that would be right on your way back to the interstate.

the DH section at Steeplechase is closed. I was at the xc race there in June and talked to the owner and he said it was closed because of liability.

any idea how many people it would take to make it profitible enough to open it for a day? Had we known of this south dakota delagation beforehand we could've set up a DH race at steeple on saturday.

Anybody know how many showed up?

I will probably never be a downhill rider (is 29 to old to learn?), but think these events would be awesome to watch, so I'd like to see as many of these happen as possible...

well duh, of course, the pic is just earlier than that.

Gotta extend the body first, to be able to absorb any later.

Good times, we gotta make it bigger and longer next year!

Dudez, that DH course was rockin' Saturday! I'll definitely be going back there for a few weekend trips. Props to the building crew!

Were all the posted photo locations from the course that was ridden, or was there some other secret  stuff?

Did anybody ever manage to steel that sheet with the times on it?

Did anyone happen to grab that time sheet? I would be interested to see the splits, final times, etc.

Thanks again to everyone who built this trail and put on the DH race. I totally had a blast. I can't wait to compete in another one of these things. It is going to be really hard to go back to XC racing this year.

Buck..thanks again for the caffeine buzz
Thanks to anyone who posted pics.
