There has been some trail work started at Ski Gull and a lot more needs to be done. If any one would like to give us a hand with this project write me on this form and I will let you know when and were we will need you. This is a great chance to bring some nice single track to the Brainerd Lakes area. This will have some challenging stuff out there but when it is finished it will be a great trail. Cheers and I hope to see some people volunteer and making a difference in the MTB community here in Brainerd.

Hey, I think we meet really quickly at Trailblazers in Nisswa; I'm the little Sean. I'm totally down for building; any trail built up here is better than what we have now. So just let me know when your building, and I'll try and make it out there to help.

What's going on Nick. As you know I am up there quite a bit in the summer and I usually ride in the pillsbury so if you are going to be working anytime on the weekends let me know. Also my club in Rochester has a lot of tools for trail building that I could bring with me for a weekend or whatever. So let me know what the trail building schedule looks like.

I might be able to help on occasion as well. Keep posting on the MORC site and let us know what's up.

I'm a Nisswa native and still spend quite a bit of time in the area . (We can see Ski Gull from our beach on the north shore of Gull--near Dutchman's Bluff. The trails at Camp Lincoln on the east side of Hole-in-the-Day are great, though only three miles long. I haven't ridden Pillsbury for awhile. 'Twas full of equestrians the last time I was over there.

Wow! That was fast on the replies and just what I wanted to see! I will be talking to the guys here tomorrow and try to get the next trail session figured out. Matthew with the tools you can get I just might hit ya up on that because we have just the basics and if more people start to show up it would be nice for them to have a tool in there hands. To all that would like to partake in this little venture send me a email threw morc and I will contact you back on how to get a hold of me better and things can be passed on smoothly. I'm not sure who is still racing and what not so it would be safe to say there will not be any trail work going on the MNSCS weekends. Other then that I think the weekends are going to be the best time to get out there and get some things done. Keep your eye's open on this tread and I will keep you all posted on whats happening. Thanks again I hope to see ya all out there soon!

Dude, that place sucks...;)

I'll let you know when I get up there again. Meanwhile, you should also be working on helping out with the Crosby trails.

Call me.

:jumpy: Hey Beau you are not really up to speed on what we are doing out there so don't be to hasty on the negative. As for the Crosby trails I have not heard much on them besides what has been paved. I also like the fact that all my stuff is not stained with that red iron crap. The drive to Crosby is not what I want ether, gas prices and commute time are a factor. I'm also not knocking the Crosby area in any way because I've done my share of riding at the Pitts and I know what they have to offer. I'm just not interested in that type of riding right now, I want more XC and if that's what they are doing out there more power to them. Being more of a down hill guy I can see that being a fun place for you to go but the XC is what we are focusing on right now at Ski Gull, something that a 40lbs bike is not going to match up with to well. We are going to try and cut a 5+ mile loop out there with maybe a possibility of a race in the future but right now the trail needs to come first before we can think that way. As for any down hill stuff out there that can be up to you when your back in this area and I also don't remember a chair lift in the Pitts the last time I was there, Ski Gull has more to offer then you think man. Lets not have the negative on this thread because I'm trying to get people interested in helping out and not push them away. The mountain biking up here needs all the help it can get and our numbers are few to none. Get a hold of me the next time your in town buddy and lets have a few beers and chat about the good old days. Thanks to every one for the replies threw morc and my email. We do need all the help we can get with this project. Cheers!

As of right now the next big trail cutting session will be the first weekend in July, the 1st & 2nd. With the MNSCS race this week end and the following that will be the next time for everything to fit together. That also gives me and the guy's up here a few more weeks to get things flagged off out there and ready for a crew. I look forward to seeing you all out there and I will post a time and place to meet when we get closer to the date. Good luck to all that are racing in the next two weeks! Cheers

Hahahahaha....I guess you didn't sense my sarcasm, which is why I added the ' ;) ' *WINK* at the end! That's why they have smilies, to help show expression on a forum! Hahahaha...I wasn't being negative at all foo.

I love that place! I have wanted to get something going there for YEARS! It's easily shuttle-able for a DH race, and we used to do it all the time. Hell, we used to shuttle it in the Winter 9 years ago!

NOW GET TO WORK :fool:

How far along are you on the trail? When do you do trail work?

:D Well the guy's and I have got a lot done out there and we are ready for the next stage! We need people to help rake and and prep the trail, some brush cutting needed but nothing too back breaking. I would like to say we have close too 3-3.5 miles of single track marked and brushed out fairly well and more too be added in the next few weeks. As for what to expect with the trail, a lot of climbing, some switch backs and long fast down hill sections. So to all that would like to help out feel free to email me, as for right now we are going to get back out there this weekend. The morning shuffle will work out the best with getting things done on a holiday weekend, 8am to noon is what I have planed right now. Parking will be down a dirt road were the communication towers are located on top of the Ski Hill, it is really hard to miss! After you go down that dirt road you will see our cars parked on the left. Well I hope to see some people show up and don't forget to bring a steel rake or what ever tool you think may be needed for trail work. Cheers to all and see ya out there!

:D Things are going good out there and with some more work what has been done should be ride able very soon! We are looking to recruit some more workers for the 15th and 16th so if your in town that weekend come on out and give us a hand. Please email me so I have an idea of who to look for and what to expect for #'s. 8am to noon worked out well and I think that would be a good time to stick with right now so grab your bug spray and camelbak and try to make it out there. I will leave an updated message closer to that date with what you might need to bring and if some thing happened to change with the time. Cheers

Hey Nick and Rori, I'll be up there on whitefish starting next weekend for a week. Is this trail ok to ride anytime? Does ski gull have a boat launch? I might want to bring my sea doos out on gull lake after a ride.

Maybe we'll have to do a night ride at the hole trail again. I might even be slower this year since i hurt my elbow. :hit:

see ya.

Hey Jimmy!
The trail work went to crap with all the hot weather so no its not ready but we still have places to go and ride! A night ride sounds great and I will pass it on to Rori too. Call Rori when you get into town and we will go from there!

Now that the 24hrs Of Afton is over and just a few other odds & ends to rap up we should be good to go with starting the trail work again really soon, I would like to say some time in the next few weeks. I will leave a post on whats up and give everyone a weeks notice on when we plan to get back out there. Check this thread in the next week or two and I will have an up date for ya. Cheers

Sorry, I've been missing this thread all summer. I live in Deerwood, over in the crosby area and would be around to do some trail work. I usually bike the mine area over here since I live about 400 yards from a trail head, but would be willing to travel to find some new trails.

shawn, how do you get to the mine trails? can i find my way around or could we hook up sometime for a tour? karl

There are several spots to access the mines. Coming from Brainerd there is a left turn to Trommald by the water tower. Follow that road out of town and take the first left after the last stop sign in town. This is the road to the huntington/feigh and pennington mines. Further down that road about a half mile is a turnoff and parking lot on the left where there is access to the backside of pennington, and the manohmen mines. If you go through Ironton and crosby and head out of town toward deerwood, take your first left out of crosby on the road to cuyuna. About a mile down the road on your left is a sign for the manuel mine access. Turn here and park at the lot at the end of the gravel road. From these main spots you can access the majority of the mine area. Many of the trails cross over eachother and loop around. It took me about a summer worth of riding to get them all mapped out. I bought a DNR fishing map which gave me some idea of where I was. A couple of my friends got off trail and lost and had to hike out to the highway from deep in once but for the most part you can find your way out. If you are looking for a tour, let me know I'm usually looking for riding partners.
