I have 06 hydraulic disc brakes xt, and have a dragging/squealing problem. Its not the rotors rubbing because when i lift the front and spin the wheel it spins freely. I have hydros on another bike and ive never had this problem. I think it might be my fork flexing or the metal clip that holds the pad. it happens at the apex of a climb and then continues at slow speeds. Sometimes it goes away when I loosen the qr and wiggle the wheel to push the pads back but that's about 20% of the time. Its not the normal occational rotor rub. The fork is a 06 sid race. If anyone has a cure please let me know.

Check bearing play in the hubs. Had a set of squealing brakes here and while on the stand they were flawless, however when weighted they started to rub causing some severe squealing.

As Andrew stated, make sure you've got no play in the hubs. From there, it may be fork flex. A SID is not known as a particularly robust fork. You may also want to check your skewers. If you've got some super lightweight bits it may be worth trying a burlier skewer such as an XT or Hope.

A little constant rub is ok - it shouldn't squeel though. Unless your brake is Ned Beatty and you're a good ol' boy!

Is the rotor in line with the caliper? Might need some shimming to get it straight, if your rotor is true make sure its smack in the middle of them pads.

Also try (with proper shimming)........
-removing the pads, and clip
-clean the piston surfaces nice like
-clean the back of the pads
-clean the pads--ONLY USE A CLEAN COTTON CLOTH for this, no touchy touchy
-clean the clip, then bend it out a bit to give it more spring, as thats all it really is, a spring and a semi retainer
-drop some tri flow on your finger and rub it on the now clean piston surfaces, not allowing any to get all over
-drop some tri flow on your finger and rub a LITTLE on the BACK of the pads
-reinstall pads and clip
-clean rotor with clean cotton cloth, dont touch it with hands, next spray it down with some brake cleaner (i use Brakecleen from auto parts store)

Go ride!

Hope that helps ya out, thats what I came up for shimano hydros when i was wrenchin' and seemed to always take the noise away.

Annnnnnd, yes SID forks may cause a lil noise in turning situations. I use a Carbon World Cup SID and only weigh 130 and it flexes for me, damn Rock Shox, sorry Answer its the last time i stray i promise :)

it happens at the apex of a climb and then continues at slow speeds.

Just ride fast all of the time:cheesy:
