Last time I rode the farm I heard that it was going to be overgrown due to development so close by. Does anyone know if this process has started or if it is still going to be maintianed? Because if that is the circumstance I want to go to the city and try and keep the trail because I live in chaska and it is by far better than mammoth.

The reason the Farm is going bye-bye is that Hwy 212 is going right through the middle of it. The writing has been on the wall for awhile now, which is why the Farm Crew started building Mamooooth. You could chain yourself to a tree and it would not save the Farm. It is time to learn to love Mamoooooth.

but see heres the thing... to the best of my knowledge, (growing up in chaska and living right next to the farm my whole life) 212 isn't really going to even touch the farm. And there are still enterances over by the highschool that will remain. I guess i will just have to wait and see when the highway actually comes into existance.

I have a good buddy that works for MNdot and he says different. Last time I was out there (about this time, last season) we saw survey stakes all over the place. From what I could tell it's going to go right through the center of it.
As for riding it after they start construction on it... go ahead. I would have to say that Mammoth would be way better. I just think you need to show up for a Wednesday night ride over there and give Mammoth another shot. I've only ridden there a few times now, but I can totally tell it was built by the same people as the farm, it's just that there's three times as much as singletrack.

but understand im not anti mammoth, ive never ridden it because i got into mountain biking just within the past year and i moved out of chaska right when i started hearing about mammoth- i am just in love with the farm tho- thats why im so angsty about the construction.
This may help.

Oh, well then you really do need to go and check Mammoth out then. It's very similar to the farm. Loosing a good trail is always tough, but that's how it goes when we're dealing with "rogue trails".
Give the new stuff a try, I'm sure you'll like it and most of all - have fun.

I talked to a guy that was out surveying at the Farm for the new highway - 212 will go right through the middle and the interchange ramps will take out the rest. He also said they will probably be filling in the whole thing shortly as they need to move dirt around but he was really impressed with what he saw back there even though he was not a mountain biker (old moto guy). He actually said he felt bad it was being destroyed! Another thread already says that the Farm is closed/torn up/filled in; haven't tried in a few weeks since I talked to that guy. I'm bummed because that was going to be my inaugural & final Farm ride but the workers were in the middle of the trail that day so I left and went over to Mammoth which was awesome even though most of the time I was completely lost (till Ben showed me around - thanks) and then blew a tire which I patched only to find I had left my pump in my trunk and ended up hike-a-biking out. Not the first time I’ve ever had to do that though…

On great info from the EX-President (Team Ricoh), the Farm is dead. It was posted last night. Long live Mammoth.

Aldenbiker and I rode the farm "one last time" on Saturday. It sucked. Construction all over the place and the entire trail hasn't been kept up too well to begin with. Alas, we will miss it.

Yeah, the Farm rocked in its day! Its sad that it will be completely wiped out. Time to throw even more technical stuff into Mammoth then!

No reservations needed at Levis. Sites are first-come-first-serve. I'll talk to Bill and Charlie(main trail builders) and see what plans they have in the works. I know the biggest thing right now is getting the weeds down to a managable length!

The main thing missing from Mammoth is the climbing that was found at the Farm. For all of those who have ridden the Farm, we had 3 - 12 hour races out there and had some pretty good lap totals:
2002- 12 laps 1st place
11 laps 2nd place
10 laps 3rd place
2003- 12 laps 1st place
10 laps 2nd and 3rd place
2004- 14 laps 1st place
12 laps 2nd place
11 laps 3rd place
2 of us tied for the most cumulative laps in those 3 years at 34 laps each.
Having ridden well over 250 laps at the Farm, I will miss it greatly.
Now go ride Mammoth!

Mammoth is a great ride. It doesn't have the hills the farm had, but the tree ride, the washing machine, and cool (very tough) rock gardens are worth the trip out there.
It's sad the see the farm go.....but the builders out there did a great thing by keeping the thrill alive!!! Thanks a ton Mammoth crew!!

What are you guys talking about?? Hills?? Mammoth has some of the biggest hills in the metro. It may not have the up and down roller coaster type hills that the farm has, but there's enough climbing in there to keep even the most finicky dirt roadie happy. Mammoth rocks!!!

Devon- You are pushing around a decently heavy bike though.;)

I learned last Saturday that pushing around too tall a gear at warp speed has the same effect. Those hills can grow awfully fast ;)

The Farm will be missed I rode it one last time yesterday and watched the machinery tear down tree after tree. That really got to me.. but then I thought of Mammoth and was thankful for a "replacement" trail. Was wondering if someone could let me know about trailwork and possibly show me around, I'm still not sure about the right way to ride it.

Guess I should be complaining MORE then :D Nonetheless, I was just saying that there's still quite a few hills out at Mammoth. Guess more than anything, both trails are quite a bit differerent. I always got lost at the farm and maybe that's why I don't like it nearly as much as mammoth. For some reason, I just love Mammoth.

You should be fine for this weekend. We were at Levis last weekend (Memorial day) and there were only about 3 other groups camping there. You can technically camp anywhere in the forest in that area, the only thing that is limited is that there are only a half dozen or so fire rings in the area.,

This still an option? I've only ridden off-road once at Tim Wirth since moving here in March, need A LOT more than that! I'd love a guide and a chance to meet some folks. I can be there ~ 5:45 any wednesday!
Thanks!

Right on, looks like I'll be skirting L. Minnetonka on the west, coming across 5 and then down 41 to Chaska.
...as I re-read your message, I'm literally off of 12 in Maple Plain (@ CR-110N) and figure traffic on the west is less than on the east of the Lake.
Thanks!

If you're coming down 41, take a right on Pioneer Trail (you'll see a Home Depot on the left jsut before the stop light) drive up the little hill and you will see Jonathon Elementary on the right. Take the next right after the school entrance and then one more right up the newly paved road to a new pavilion. I'll be in the parking lot.
