I seem to be on a run of bad luck with my Sidi Dominator 4s. In the last few months I've managed to tear open both shoes after catching them on tree roots. One side is torn so that my little toe is visible inside the shoe, on the other side one of the velcro straps is torn almost completely away from the shoe. Looks like its time for new MTB shoes. I love the fit of the Sidis, and my first pair (Dominator 2s) lasted 4 or 5 years. Before that I wore Shimano M 220s(?) with 3 velcro straps. However, the pricing on the Sidis is getting ridiculous. $229 for Dominator 5s? I don't even want to hear from any of you about the "shop price" on these.
Fit issues aside, are there any viable alternative brands? Especially interested in alternative buckle systems as I am not sure I would go back to velcro-only.

Jeff, try looking at the Gaerne shoe's. I've had the same pair for over 5 years now. I ordered mine from Jenson. Good luck on finding a new pair of shoes.

I've had great luck with my specialized shoes the past 3 years and still going. I had to alter the bottom of the shoe to make them work with my Time pedals, but it was easy to do and no problems clipping in or out. Three velcro straps to keep the shoe on. They have survived all I can dish out and more so far.

You gotta go with the sid's I also had the shimano 220's nothin' compares to the fit of an italian boot. If you love the ride as much as I do you'll have no problem with the price. You only live once!

Agreed save for the altering them to accomodate Times...I've had no issues in that respect. I'm on my 3rd iteration of the "Comp" - w/ratcheting strap. Due for another pair soon. The only Big S product I'll buy.
Lake makes a nice boot too. I think Sidis are horribly overrated.

I switched from Sidi to Lakes and not disappointed at all. Just a matter of what works. Cheers
