This is a typical Bench cut that allows the water to run off of the trail and continue down the hillside. Not all trails are benched, but many are.

This is what happens to a benched trail if its been riden on when it is wet, damp, or soft.

When this starts to happen is takes the trails a lot longer to dry. It also causes the water to run down the trail, instead of off the trail, which causes rutting, sand deposits, and a lot of other damage.
We are here to make good and sustainable trails. We don't like to have to tell people when to ride and when not to. We also don't like it when we can't ride the trails, but we have reasons for doing what we do and we have reasons for wanting people not to ride the trails when they are wet.
Please don't damage trails by riding them when they are wet. Thank you.
