You bet! Better yet, ask them how the trails are, and then tell them that we want to make sure to ride them wet so the city bans us from making more trails, because the users aren't responsible. Do this with a straight face. If they come up with some excuse, just tell them how many volunteer hours went into building the trails so that they can abuse them.

Stopped by Theo Wirth and waited for the riders who were riding the wet trails. I told them to wait till the trail was DRY. they just said it was dry enough.

I saw:
1 Niner Bike Orange SS
1 Specialized Enduro Black
1 Cross Bike Bianchi
1 Fuel 90 something
YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!

And next time ill take a picture w/the phone and post it here!:fool:

There are lot of selfish a-hole bikers out there to be sure...

I'm pretty sure what comes around goes around for these types.

Thanks for your guarding the trail. We could use more people stopping by the trailheads just checking up no things and asking riders to please stay off. We've come a long way but there are many who need to learn.

Its funny how 5 minutes of sun = dry trails in some people's (small) minds. Same goes for hikers as well - their trails rarely dry as fast as ours yet they are out there with unleashed dogs crapping up their trails too. Figures.

I have a Bianchi cross-terrain (a Sparta) but it wasn't me at Theo today -- I'm in Bismarck, ND - just in case anyone sees me on my bike up there in the future.

I respect the trails, man...I'd never ride 'em soggy.

Some people are idiots.

I went out and 'policed' the trail tonight from 7 - 9. Caught 5 bikers in two groups and 1 runner, and thoroughly embarrassed two of them. The other three were "like what's wrong, man?" I explained about all the volunteer hours, etc., that goes into building the trails and that if we are fixing ruts and damage we can't build new and more trail. I thought I was looking into empty wells, and said please stay off the trails when wet or come out for one work session and you'll realize what I'm talking about. arrrrgggghhhhh. The runner thought that the rules only applied to bikers. I explained that a shoe hole leaves a deep puddle that just stays wet for a week, causing more damage. He said "Oh", and continued his run. arrrrgggghhhhh.
p.s. To the 4 guys who said the trail was dry enough to ride: BULL****!!!!!!! It wasn't even close at 8:30, much less 2:30.

Bummer... Just goes to show, you can be right there on the spot - and people will look right through you and not hear a word you're saying.

But then some people are just bike tools, anyone with a lick of real riding experience would have known that there was no way the trails would be dry enough to ride today without causing damage.

I like the idea of posting pics of poachers - much better then the cities' alternative - enforcement and tickets. :hit:

And just when I thought we were going to be able to take some time off from repairs.

I know this is a Wirth thread, but I just wanted to say I went and checked out the parking lot around 6pm on Sunday. Not one vehicle! I then went over to the Galaxie side and hid for a while behind the orange fence with camera in hand... not one rider came through.

There were about 5-6 bike tracks and that was about it. Not too bad. I think putting up the orange fences, even with the parking lot open, works well for most riders.

Just wanted to give some positive feedback... (although no poacher pics to post..)

Just wanted to check and see what people are thinking about today...2 days without rain ...could that be enough to open Wirth?

I think it's unlikely....but I asked that some of the locals check it out and post up as soon as they can. Thanks for asking.

I'll be out there tonight ( on foot and not "on trail" ) scoping out some future projects. I hope to see no one I know out there, unless the sun gods really come through in a hurry. I plan on being armed ( camera, not pulaski * this time * ) and am always dangerous :D

I like it! We can be like the St. Paul Police but have a trail poachers webpage setup instead of hookers (http://www.stpaul.gov/depts/police/prostitution_photos_current.html). :)

I hate to go to this extreme of a method for trying to do something about poaching when the trails are closed, but we sustained a lot of damage over the weekend.

What makes it so bad is that two different people were on site telling riders that the trails were closed, why, and what kind of damage they were causing - and they still rode after being informed.

Obviously there are a few people who don't care about how hard we work to have these trails, don't have enough common sense to know when things are absolutely too wet too ride, or just think that "real" mountain biking means getting muddy.

So, we're going to shame these jerks by taking pics of them exiting the trails with their muddy bikes along with a picture of the damage they caused.

It's not for the revenge, but as a future deterrent. Once people become aware that their actions have ramifications that also affect themselves (not just the rest of us) they may actually use their head and some adult judgement when they find the trails are so wet that mud is sticking to their tires.

Idiots beware, you're going to be featured on the Internet Machine in all your myopic glory.

BTW - Those of you working in shops, I urge you to ask your employers to refuse to work on muddy bikes. Just another way to let people know that they're being selfish idiots (and you won't have to be their paid bike washer).

well it's 2:30 pm and the sun is beating down pretty good. i just drove by the entrance on 55 and theo parkway and it looked pretty dry in there. obviously i didn't go in far enough to see if there was water or not on the trails. if theo is open today, please post that info. this looks like the only day for a potential to ride this week as the weather looks pretty crappy the rest of the week.

Bill is going to check on his way home and call in, but it doesn't look good. We got a lot of rain on Saturday, and with the damage over the weekend, there's more standing water than normal.

It just rained on Theo and I see more coming on the radar.....so it's unlikely it will be rideable today. It is supposed to get nicer tomorrow and Wednesday, which should dry out the trails and make them rideable. There are a lot of trouble spots that are getting much worse because people keep riding them when they are not quite ready, which actually makes the trail take longer to dry out. We (the trailworkers) need your help on this by people staying off the trail when it's wet. Thank you.
