For some reason, unknown to me, whenever I ride in the Cable WI area in the wet, i expierience chain suck of varying degrees.Today during the Cable Classic I tore my chain apart, and as I was repairing my chain I noticed a nice dirt/sand mix between the links. After I repaired it I got about 5 minutes of pedaling before it sucked again, at which point I bailed.
I lubed my chain the night before and also in the morning before the start, and ran it through a rag after to remove the excess.
I don't have problems when it is dry (different lube)
So my questions are
1. What causes chain suck?
2. Am I lubing incorrectly?
3. What lubes do others use without problems in very wet conditions?

http://www.fagan.co.za/Bikes/Csuck/ this site made sense to me and has yet to fail.

Edit: Sand brings out the best/worst of a worn chain ring.

Damn, that guy broke it DOWN, very thoroughly. Now we know...

and knowing is half the battle.

My guess is that you've got a worn middle ring. That's the only thing that I've ever had issues with inducing chain suck. It's usually shark-finned pretty badly. Add grit and you are hosed.
