I was there and 'Mud Madness' was appropriate. It ended up being a really good time for me, it just took 20-25 minutes of stopping to clean the mud out of the tires/frame before I figured out how to ride the conditions. The mud wasn't sloppy or deep. It was just a very thin layer of VERY sticky mud on the race line.
I think there were only 15 guys total in the Sport race. Probably a low turnout due to the weather.
Great fun though! Thanks for having it A1 & Spoke!

Day 2 at Mount Kato was as wet as day 1. I made a better tire choice though for day 2 and everything was fine. The TT & STXC were awesome! Getting to ride the course backwards for the TT was pretty cool. Way different ride! Entrant numbers were much lower on day 2. I think quite a few people were discouraged when they had to spend 2 hours cleaning their bikes.:) They probably just didn't want to do that again. There were only 4 guys in the sport class...I got fourth...Yaaaayyyy!!!! Several of the top expert guys also returned and really rode well.
Another race that I'm glad I went to!

I rode sport the first day, but couldn't make day two because of mother's day plans.
My thoughts were as follows:
Unless you were using a true mud tire, lack of traction was pretty much a given due to the extreme stickiness of the mud and it building up on your tires.
I've never ridden Mt. Kato before. I had a blast on the decents and "The Maze" section, but I was hoping for some rougher terrain.
Small fields, beginner had 5 people, probably because of the poor weather.
The flyer said live music. I never saw/heard any.
My bib number was made from a paper plate. So where did the entrance fee go?Overall, I am glad I made it out there and am thinking about returning for the 12-hour challenge later this summer.
