View Full Version : elbow/knee pads
I broke my elbow a few weeks ago going off a jump with no protection at all with not enough speed and want to try to prevent breaks in the future. I hit my head first, knocking me out and landed who knows how.....

Anyone have advice on elbow/knee pads?
I would prefer to buy from 661 through a friend. Is there a shop that has these in town to look at?
I really want something light that won't overheat me too much more than I already get during xc races. I Jump some, but I usually have my limits except the night I broke my elbow.

I got some 661 pads at Erik's warehouse sale last fall. I don't know if they still carry them.

Nice elbow pic. Gotta love those battle scars.
Jim,
I got a pair of 661 Race elbow/forearms that I use (knee-shin too) If you wanna check 'em out, I'm in Crystal, kinda near you I assume.
Q carries 661, so any LBS can get you what you want.

I stopped by a couple of the bigger shops and they don't carry pads but both offered to show me the q book. They thought alt might stock them.
Check out what Rich did to his knee at buck thursday. He did it right before the race and had to race this way.....

Pete, I must live near enough to you. I'd like to stop by and take a look. It would be better than pictures. You want to pm your address or phone or i can give you mine?

Ive got some FOX ones from www.Jensonusa.com (http://www.Jensonusa.com) for $12. They cover the knee/shin but the tend to slide down a lot below your knee so i recommend wearing long socks (like soccer socks) over them which keeps them up.
I love my Roach guards, unstoppable! super comfy and a time tested and proven design!
Another way to over come the fox pads slipping is to get a light pad like the 661 or fox nylon/neoprene whatever they are called and wearing it over the top of the hard shell.

I'll put in a second on the Roach, I have the Rally FR. I like them a lot, good protection, comfy, minimal movement even under heavy pedaling. They do get a little warm on warm days under heavy peadaling of more XC stuff, but I would rather have warm shins than ones with out skin.
