Hey y'all,
I am pleased to announce The Dig Bike Fest will be happening on Saturday July 8, just outside the metro in Osceola WI. It is going to be a MountainCross race and dirt jump contest, with different classes for different bikes, from BMX to SingleSpeeds, to MTB Open.
Please check it out and preregister at www.smittysbikes.com/digbikefest (http://www.smittysbikes.com/digbikefest)
Feel free to PM me or reply here with any questions you might have.
BTW - I am still actively working on sponsors for the event, but so far, The RiverBank in Osceola, QBP, One on One Bicycle Studio, and Cars R Coffins are down with Dig.
Rock on,
Smitty
Awesome Paul,
Got your e-mail will respond shortly!
Thanks!

Looks pretty cool. Do you have any recommendations or guidelines for choosing a class to race in?

Thanks for your interest Thor. Here's all the different classes (I guess I should post this on the race page and not just on the entry form)
MTB Open
MTB Novice
MTB Single Speed
MTB Clydesdale (200 lbs. Plus)
MTB Women
BMX 12 & Under
BMX 13 – 17
BMX 18 & Over
BMX Cruiser
BMX Women
MTB Jump Jam
BMX Jump Jam
I'm gonna guess that your question has to do with deciding between MTB Open and MTB Novice. The other choices are pretty self-explanitory, no?
I'm hoping for at least 50 riders, relatively evenly distributed between the 10 racing classes. If that happens, we'll go thru three rounds of motos to qualify 4 to the main in each class, and the top three will get a trophy and some product (depending on how much swag I have to give out.) I'll try to give out the best swag to the top level classes.
There aren't any "rules" about this, but obviously I hope that no Experts sandbag and try to run the Novice class. I guess the Open class would be any Pros or Experts, Novice would be Sport or Beginner or what have you. I realize that this sort of event (MountainCross) is going to be new for most of the participants, since there are not a lot of 4X events around these parts. So even if someone is a NORBA Expert for XC, but they are not confident of their abilities on a course like this, they will be able to run in the Novice class and they won't be hassled about it. At least not by the race organizers - your buddies might call you out!

Wow, this event sounds sweet! I may even dust off the 1985 Robinson BMX bike and run that also. Hmmmm....do you think the 15 year old tires are still good?

Womens class, eh? If there aren't any other gals, will you be willing to let me race with the dudes? I'm in for sure!

Of course Maria. My background is BMX, and in BMX, girls race boys all the time. But the trick here is this: you gotta recruit other women and girls so we get some full classes!
I should mention this: our aim will be to make a challenging, exciting track, with opportunities for the big air for those with skillz, but still a track that everyone can successfully negotiate without falling over. Did I mention I got a guy designing the track on CAD? I'll post a 3D pic of the model here soon, so ya can even give me feedback on the course design!

Here is a sketch of the course layout! I will have some actual pics after this weekend. Now - doesn't that look fun!!! Mountain Bikers, you don't get a chance to race on a track like this every day....be there July 8 or regret it 'til next year.

Yeah Andy, the whole course is rollable, so XC guys who have never tried BMX or MountainCross, here is your chance. No ABA or NORBA membership required.
Here's a tidbit: The waterjump is sponsored by a bank in Osceola called the RiverBank. We're calling it the RiverBank Wishing Well. If you crash into the waterjump, you fish around in the water and grab a handful of quarters! I'm serious! There's gonna be $50 worth of quarters in there! We're trying to make it fun.

Steev, you ripped it up! Hann-Yu killed the course! Thor you did too! Like to see some pics posted here of Thor blasting that dropoff that broke your derailleur! Thanks so much for coming out, guys! Hope you had fun, despite the waterjump not working out...

Big ups to John Gaddo, Trialsaddict. He accepted my request the day before the event to do the announcing. He was awesome, don't you think?
