I biked the Luce Line yesterday starting in Plymouth. It's a paved trail, with a knarly horse trail running next to it. Looks like a good 40 mile track round trip. A few good spots to stop along the way, too. Any thoughts on riding horse trails that no horses are on? I guess the worst that can happen is getting a bit of horse dung in my eye heh?

I live one block from the Luce Line and my neighbor rides her horses on the trail all the time. Why did I add this info, because I have been riding the horse trails for four years and never had any problems. (it's not great but hey, it works)
The biggest thing is to give the horses the right of way and the riders have always been very nice.
There are a few good hills and it will allow about 20 miles round trip of single track trail.

The Luce Line Trail is considered unpaved. It is a crushed limestone surface, and gets mucky when wet. Asphalt doesn't do that.
The trail is 63 miles long and runs from Plymouth to Cosmo, with the limestone surface through Winstead. MTBs are allowed on the side (horse) trail, as well as the primary trail. The horse trail only runs out 20 some miles.

I toatlly forgot about those trails. I used to live in Long Lake and the Luce Line horse trails were where I did most of my riding. From what I remember it was n't against the rules to ride the the horse trails. I'm going to have to go back there and ride them again soon.

Hey y'all, I've posted a question regarding a possible route from the Plymouth/Luce Line area to Theo Wirth in the Theo Wirth forum.
Here's the thread:

I'd love to hear any ideas you all might have...thanks!

From what I remember it was n't against the rules to ride the the horse trails.
The DNR rules permit mountain bikes on the side/horse trails on both the Luce Line and Gateway, but remember to ride safely and courteously and yield to horses on the trail.
I actually found a cow standing on the main Luce Line Trail one time, mid-way between Stubbs Bay Rd. and the next highway crossing. I did yield the right of way!:D
Ride safe,
