Wowwww! Being new to the Twin Cities I just did my first ride out at Leb yesterday and it was amazing!!! :jumpy:

No offense intended to some of the other trails in the Metro (i.e., each of them DO have their own strengths and charms), but Leb was exactly what this old Utah/California rider has been jones'in for this last few months! Big time congratulations and thanks to those of you responsible for what we now have.

I'm just blown away with the wide variety of different riding experiences someone can have in such a fairly small place. It's great for those of us that have been riding for a while and would like to challenge ourselves with some technical riding, but not so technical that it breaks up the "flow" that I yearn for when riding.

I knew I was going to have fun with the rest of Leb about a minute into my first run when I could hardly hold down the ear to ear grins!!!

It's also a great place for beginners and intermediates, with plenty to get them started with and then to build on over time. In fact, I'm already thinking about getting my young nephews out there to give 'em a taste of what off-pavement riding can be like.

On that note, any more news from MORC about the riding clinics I read about in another forum?

Hope to see you all out there on the trail sometime!

Yeah, I did my first Leb ride for the year over the weekend.. got two long laps in, a big congrats to the Leb trail crew on doing an amazing job. Thanks for the hard work, and from the construction areas visible from the trail, it looks like there's some really cool stuff lined up for this year!

other trails in the Metro
We are in the process of increasing the difficulty at Theo Wirth. IF you like more challenging and more trails in general, please comment on the Minneapolis Park and Rec site and let them know your feelings, and please come out and help build trails.

Quick thanks on the riding clinic info...I'll keep my eyes peeled for more info. On a related note...

Not to make this too much of a mutal admiration society...but I really have been amazed at the trail maintenance ethic out here in the Twin Cities and all of the amazing work that MORC has done on Leb Hills and Theo Wirth.

Both trails are real fun to ride for different reasons and I'm looking forward to the possibility of checking out some of the other MORC trails.

Being somewhat of a transplant from Utah and California, it's great to see riders so involved with conservation and trail riding education. I think we took it for granted out West, but most of the (non-Moab and non-Tahoe) trails get relatively so little wear and tear and are maintained by government folks that riders seem to be losing their connection with the earth that provides our riding wonderlands.

I guess when you have to fight so hard to get and keep what you have (i.e., all the hard work done by ya'all over the last few years), it increases the value you place on it. I'll get off the soap box now, but it's great to see so such a vibrant riding and trail building community.

As soon as I can get my 3 young kids and their various other commitments settled, I'm gonna try to get out for some trail work! Probably just have to take the plunge and do it. :etard:

BTW, is it common to get in a run after the Tuesday night trail work sessions at Leb? I'd be driving a bit to get there and it'd be nice to get in a ride if possible. Also, this time of year do you need a light to riding Leb at 8pm?

(Alright, being new to online communities like this, I'm realizing I need to work on the length of my posts!!! Not to be too much of a wise acre, but who holds the [dubious] record for the longest MORC post?):p:p

Post away! Glad to have you on the MORC forums! We'd love to have you show up for trail work days. Hearing statements like yours about Leb really make all the trail work worthwhile. Thanks!

I had a really good time riding Leb yesterday as well....it kicked my azz, but that's my fault for being this out of shape and trying to ride Leb and Theo in the same weekend. This condition will not last for long however....my kids are finally old enough that I don't feel too bad asking my wife to watch both of them while I go for a ride.

Thanks for the post Sev-

Your insight from other parts of the country and other mindsets is very interesting and appreciated. It is amazing, the amount of work that gets put into trails around here, be it MORC, Blast, Red Wing crew or wherever. For that work and the people that perform it, I am thankful. Glad it stands out for a new-comer such as yourself.

Welcome to MN!! See ya on the trails.

Yes indeed, the commitment to creating and maintaining quality trails out here is amazing-I hope to contribute to that too myself. :D

Also, it looks like riders do a pretty good job of not riding the trails when conditions go sour.

Along those lines, it's pretty incredible that you have such a great network set up to quickly get the word out on almost hour by hour conditions at Leb and Theo Wirth.

Thanks to all for the welcome, hope to see you soon riding and/or working on the trails!
