Hi all
Just a friendly reminder, and a thread of it's own.
We'll be meeting at the start/finish area (look for the little "driveway" that is to the right a little after the road splits to head to the lower quarry) at 9:00 AM.
The plan will be to hopefully have enough people to split up and tackle both the Dual Slalom course, and the 2nd half of the Downhill course. These are both pretty much clean slates, so anyone who shows up will really be able to put a stamp on some trails that will be around for a long time. Only real limitations that I can think of are it needs to be fun, built to good trail standards (not going to erode away right away etc.), safe (if you have skills), and anything that isn't rollable/rideable for a chump with a rigid forked singlespeed needs to eventually have a B line (mainly because that's me and I'd like to be able to at least ride a little of it away from race day).
Ideally we'd be able to work hard on Saturday and get lines and lots of the trail at least cleared, thus leaving Sunday for riding/relaxing/seeing my mom who lives about 1.5 hours away. I'd prefer to not work all weekend, plus asking people to make it to Red Wing two days in a row is a tall order.
Post up if you plan on making it out on Saturday so I can get a feeling for how much food and drink to bring.
Also. This is practically BYOT. We don't have tons of tools available, so any rakes, weed whips (with blade attachement), clippers, shovels, etc. that you could bring would be helpful.
Thanks
Isaac
I'll be there Saturday/part of sunday maybe.(work may conflict)
Might help to post this up in the FR/DH forums as well.

I checked out that jump last night and that thing is huge, it's almost like you are trying to compensate for something gus.... Kidding of course, but the trail looks great, I'm planning on coming out on saturday to help out, hopefully we can get both done.

I'm going to make an executive decision to officially cancel any Sunday trailwork. Sorry if you were planning on helping then, but since these threads haven't exactly been filling up with responses I don't think that too many people will be put out.
Repeat.... NO Sunday trailwork on the 14th. Go say hi to your moms instead.

Generally speaking I think you'll be surprised at the turnout...alot of non-morcers know about it. I know of atleast three people that haven't posted that will be coming.
Think positive, any one body more then what you usually have is a good thing!

I'll plan on attending, just need directions from Mezeppa. Do we get to ride after too?

Thanks Ryan....
Directions from Mazeppa (as I'd go):
Get back on 52 North for a little bit, take the Zumbrota exit. Take a right at the stop sign at the top of the exit (this should be 58 I think). Stay on 58 until you are in Red Wing. Once you are actually in town you'll hit a 4-way stop (liquor store on your right, Kwik Trip on your left). This is 7th St. Take a right and then follow that for a mile or so maybe and Memorial Park will be on your right.
I have no clue what the weather has been like (been in Cincy all week for work) but I would think that if it hasn't been pouring all week riding after trailwork would be a very good idea. I'll let Gus or someone who has been in the area all week make that call.
Maybe see you tomorrow

Well, I'll be down there but the weather doesn't look good. If you cancel the trailwork cuz of the weather can you call me? I won't be able to check the Web after tonight. My cell is 763 - 498-1132. Also, how long are you expecting trailwork to go? Sounds like I might have something going on in the evening.

My plans changed!!! I didnt feel like paying to ride the Cable Classic in the cold, rain and snow this year. Last year it was a mudfest but at least it was warmer. I'll see you guys up there on Saturday. What do you need me to bring for tools??? I'll throw my bike in but I agree with Panman, the weather doesnt look very promising.

actually if you take wabasha county 1 north to Goodhue/wabasha county 16 where you will take a left, drive for approximately 3 miles and take a right at the intersection of 16 and Co. Rd 4. that will take you to St. Hwy 58 which will take you to red wing same as isaac directed, it sounds complicated but it will shave off some time and miles. Your girlfriend will be able to get you headed in the right direction as well.
Just got off the horn with Chris,
Building is still on for tomorrow, I'll be there wtih atleast one other builder. and I know a couple guys from Northfield will be there as well.
9 am, gate by lower quarry

Thanks guys... as far as I know while the weather will suck I don't think it's anything that will require calling work off. I'll leave that up to Gus though.
I'm guessing that trailwork will go as long as people want it to. A few weeks ago when we cut the new trail (which is partly the top portion of the DH) I think we started at 9 and were done in by 2:00 or 2:30.... If you have to leave early, no worries at all. I have a feeling that we'll be going until the mid-afternoon if people can stand to be out in the cruddy weather that long.
I'd probably leave the bikes at home. I don't know that any real damage would be done to the trails, but I don't think that riding would be too fun in 40 degree wet weather....
On the tool question... if you have a rake, pulaski-ish or McLoed-ish thing that would be sweet. Power tools (like a chain saw, weed whip, ditch-witch) would be cool too.
See y'all tomorrow
Isaac
P.S. Lower Quarry gate? Weird... good thing you posted Buck

I'll leave my bike home then too. Wish it was nice though, never been to Memorial before. I'll bring my shovel, rake, and mattox. Maybe the weed-whip with brusher attachment if possible. See you in the morning! Again, please call me if you cancel, 763-498-1132. Thanks

I'll give you a call if I hear anything by tomorrow morning calling stuff off Ryan. It does suck about the weather, once it clears up weather wise maybe we'll have to plan a Steeplechase/Memorial double or something (maybe throw in Winona too...)

Thanks for coming out Buck, Thor, Ryan and Porter! Some awesome stuff got built today. In about 5 years I might have the courage to try out some of it myself....
Too bad the weather forecast was so ugly, as it was absolutely perfect for playing in the dirt and some guys might have been scared away... a few more bodies and we could have finished the DH run completely. One more day with a crew like today (the more the merrier though) and we'd have everything done but the riding in (I think).
Isaac
P.S. Thanks for supper Gus!
Heck yeah,
It was great coming out and working to bad a couple bodies bailed...perfect building weather.
Anyway definitly going to be a unique trail for the area, my favorite section is the last part we worked on ski jump hip to booter thing...gonna be sooo bad asss!!!!!
Post up those pics Gus!!!
Thor and I are thinking about coming out this Saturday for a while to do some diggin' and finish up what we have planned out there!
Thanks for supper Gus!

I would have to agree that the DH line is pretty sweet. If I had the money to build another bike, it would be a DH/Freeride bike fo sure!!! Nice building with you guys and thanks for supper Gus. Too bad you had to bail because you were on call. Hopefully I'll be able to make it down for the next trailwork weekend! Peace out!!

Hey gang.
Thanks to all of you for the help. We got a tremendous amount of work done for the size of the crew. As for dinner, it was the least I could do.
Adam & Thor, It's up to you to come up with sweet name for the part of the trail.
Working on the pics right now.
