John, Dale, and Tim have been working feverishly with the heavy equipment to cut us some trail. Now comes our fun task of the finish work. We will be cutting the backslope and smoothing out the trail. There will also be some rock work and any other tidying up that needs done.

If we have time and Bob brings his chain saw, we may work on the Log Pile to the Moon.

Should I bring a ladder in case we do work on the log pile?

Doing the finishing work definitely is priority, but while out on the trail today I cut up a good 8-10 solid logs that can be used on the "mountain"... and I think that is only a start. I want this one to be big.

The logs are oak and will take a lot of muscle to move...

Tim's machine broke today so we didn't get to digging on the 2nd new trail at all. :cryin: The first is ready for hand finishing and then can be opened up for riding. It will be a NICE trail... and I hope those doing the old X / XX / X and out will now do the X / XX / newtrail out.

Oh, and the jump that was there around that corner was pushed in line with the trail just before the log mountain. I think some will get some nice air off it with a nice straight landing.

We saw those logs today when coming out of the expert loop. WOW. We also saw and smelt the freshly-cut trails. They look great. I can't wait to ride them.
Banana man approves in the only way he knows how.

There is nothing like freshly cut trail in the morning... :p

I'll attempt to bring a come along to move any oversized log / rock for the trail.

If I remember correctly, the bowl loop could be opened independantly of the full bypass. If that is true, then we will work the bowl and then head up towards the X entrance. We won't spent a lot of time on the log pile, but maybe enough to get it ridable allowing for future growth.

Where are the logs you cut John?

Good plan. The bowl definitely can be opened up separately. We can even re-direct traffic coming down the Intermediate bypass.

I like the idea of possibly making it ridable at least. I cut up the log right next to the pile and got I think 6 good big logs out of that one - there are one or two toward the end of the log that are nice and some junk in the middle that I didn't bother to cut up. Then there is another log around the area of the current X exit that I got around 5 out of - I stacked those up against another log so they are sticking up.

I meant to post this in the original post, and will try to remember from here on out. This is the trailwork FAQ that should cover most questions. If you have others, please post up.

I have a come along and 30+ feet of tow strap & a big pry bar if needed on the 9th for the big logs and rocks.
I think we should also have a VW Bug in the XX loop to ride over (not environmentally friendly, I know)
Maybe the Eagan Police dept has an old black & white......

We shouldn't need any heavy equipment to move the logs around, just plenty of (wo)manpower. We already have the biggest logs placed.

It is looking like isolated thunderstorms for this afternoon, so keep checking the forums for updates.

Which side are we starting out on?

Which side are we starting out on?

I think the plan is to try to open up the new bowl area that connects the X-out to the Dream. If so, we will probably plan to meet in the main lot (assuming it is open).

I think the stars might be aligning just right so I can get out for trailwork tonight...hopefully the clouds will cooperate too!

I'll check through the day, since it's a bit of haul from where I live to get out to Leb.

On a related note, do y'all ever sneek in a ride at all after trail work on Tuesday's, or is it too dark to ride without lights by the time you wrap it up? If so, I'm assuming we'll just have to see what the condition of the trail is throughout the day today.

Given what I've got to go through to free up the time to come out, I've got to take advantage of it when I can. :D

Hope to see you all tonight!

Great! I look forward to meeting you.

Usually, it is too late for a ride afterwards, and we are usually too grubby and tired. However, once in a while, a couple people will ride before the work session.

Tonight, the trail will still be too wet to ride anyway.

If the lot is open, we will meet there. If the lot is closed we will meet at the Galaxie entrance.

Things will be pretty wet out there so plan acordingly. Don't be wearing your sunday clothes and good shoes out there.

Only having been out to Leb once so far, I'm not familiar with the Galaxie entrance. If the main parking lot is closed and we need to go with Plan B, is the Galaxie entrance and parking area easy to find?

I'm assuming you just take Galaxie Rd. off of Cliff Road heading south and eventually come to it?

How far off of Cliff is it? It looks like you wind through some housing areas before you come to it.

Can someone PM me their cell number in case I get there a bit late due to traffic and need to catch up?

Thanks and see you all soon!

Here is a link to the Galaxie entrance. There is not parking lot there, we just park on Galaxie.

The area we will be working on is right by the D in Dream Trail.

Another sucessful trail session even with a few poachers, but not to worry they were added to the pile.

Still had trailwork. The sprinkles stopped by 6:10.

People busted their butt and got a lot done today. The bowl loop is ready to go minus the jump. The ground was still too soft to open up the gates though. If the weather cooperates, we should have it open by the weekend.

Thanks for all the hard work!!!:banana:

Ted, Bob, and the rest of the crew...

Thanks a bunch, I had a blast doing trail work yesterday and meeting you all. Hope to see you all sometime again soon-either working on the trail or riding it! :D It was great learning a few things about sustainable trail building, hope to learn more in future sessions.

Good to hear that section of the trail will be open soon, I can't wait to test my skills on that mean looking logpile! BTW, how do naming priveleges/rights go for features such as this new logpile? Maybe those involved with it's construction can float some options and we can see which ones suits it best.

So...let's hear some names!!!
